Re: MTS2000 UHF not performing as good as bubble pack radios
Yes, I got SIX miles between my house, and the town I live by SIMPLEX. The place I was in town was a higher place in town, and our house is roughly at the same elevation, with a lower region in between. It's all either farmland or woodlands between the two, but definitely not just free open space. ...

Re: Way OT: Chicago Police Info / Audio request
I was up there last year for the Blues Festival at Grant Park last year, and peeked in a few of the PD cars that were there. Some had Spectra's in them, and some didn't. All had MDT's. The Ambulances there had Maratrac and a Spectra/Syntor A9 head in them.

Track maintenance vehicles.....
They were probably used in the yard trucks/ track maintenance vehicles, would be my guess. With the nice, LOUD audio of the MCX1000, it was probably a good choice! Back when I lived in southern Indiana, CSX used Midlands or something like that in their track repair trucks, IIRC.

they have everybody on one home channel and trunk off it as it gets busy, i like that configuration, not sure why, but i like it. maybe it makes the system more centralized in my mind and more like a centralized trunked system instead of a bunch of linked LTR repeaters That's how our work system is...
