They were probably used in the yard trucks/ track maintenance vehicles, would be my guess. With the nice, LOUD audio of the MCX1000, it was probably a good choice! Back when I lived in southern Indiana, CSX used Midlands or something like that in their track repair trucks, IIRC.

We use Kenwood TK-480's at work...They are 800mhz LTR, but will support talk-around and conventional as well. The TK-980 is a good choice if you need a mobile/base.

I work at a large semiconductor facility, and if we key up our 1/2 watt TK-480's or HTX-582's near some of the toolsets inside the fab, the tools abort and shut themselves off. Not so good when there is product running!

MCS 2000, Spectra, Syntor, Syntor X, Syntor X9000, Micor, Mitrek, Mocom,Motrek, Maratrac were the 110 watt Moto monsters.....some of the older radios (syntor's) can be pushed a bit above 110.
