commercial 900 has always been narrowdand AFIK so no entitlement key or software hack will get around the narrow only RX filters.
Thats why Ham 900 repeaters run narrowband at 900 also.

FWIW when I cut power to my XTVA via master switch the XTS cuts off too, even though the switch is still "on".[/quote]
I need that to happen on my XTS5000. I seem to recall a soft power off option, is that it?

The problem is the radio is still turned on and off with the radio knob. Walking away and leaving the radio on will discharge the radio battery every time the ignition is off.

My old Thales 25 will scan across zones but is rather slow. One radio that scans very well is the old GE/MaCom M-RK handheld. You can put 64 channels in a zone and scan them all and it does it very well. I keep one around on VHF for that reason, I think the Orion mobile would do the same. Motorolas ...

If the ID is overdeviation it should sound VERY loud compared to voice(assuming the voice dev is set right) I set my ID level to 2.5 khz deviation, this allows users to pretty much talk over it and not get lost. After all its not a TV commercial and should not be obnoxious like one.

The duplexer has the first mixer inside it. It suffers terrible RX losses if you try to tune it low out high in like a common repeater split. Never went any further to try to modify it, tossed it.

Try putting the old battery in the deep freeze for a while. Then give it several sharp hits on the seal line. I used a small hammer that came with some kids toy set, never tried it on a saber battery but worked pretty on some others I have done.
