commercial 900 has always been narrowdand AFIK so no entitlement key or software hack will get around the narrow only RX filters.
Thats why Ham 900 repeaters run narrowband at 900 also.

The problem is the radio is still turned on and off with the radio knob. Walking away and leaving the radio on will discharge the radio battery every time the ignition is off.

My old Thales 25 will scan across zones but is rather slow. One radio that scans very well is the old GE/MaCom M-RK handheld. You can put 64 channels in a zone and scan them all and it does it very well. I keep one around on VHF for that reason, I think the Orion mobile would do the same. Motorolas ...

If the ID is overdeviation it should sound VERY loud compared to voice(assuming the voice dev is set right) I set my ID level to 2.5 khz deviation, this allows users to pretty much talk over it and not get lost. After all its not a TV commercial and should not be obnoxious like one.

Exactly, interoperability is a sales buzzword. What it boils down to is being able to communicate with the areas around you. The need and solutions have always been there. Implementation is the key, the funds must be spent to make it work.

The only hybrid transformers I have seen were designed for two wire telephony circuits (600 ohms). Probably too expensive for me even if avaliable for lo z circuits. I know there will be increased current in the amps under certain conditions but at typical volume levels I dont think it will be a pro...

I guess I should have asked has anyone but me tried it. The x9000 audio amps ARE transformer coupled and completly isolated. My dual drawer setup works fine with the audio leads in parallel driving a 4 ohm speaker.

I finally got a PLN7737B HHCH for my open face XTVA. I have it all hooked up on the bench. Tha radio sas REMOTE on the display but none of the HHCH controls work except PTT. The Mic works also. Both of mine do the same thing, when nearing the discharge limit they cut off. This is part of the internal charge controller circuitry. Do not "bump" them in the charger and use them until depleted or they may be put to sleep for good. See Battery University for some more info. http://bat...

The duplexer has the first mixer inside it. It suffers terrible RX losses if you try to tune it low out high in like a common repeater split. Never went any further to try to modify it, tossed it.

I have not had any luck with the double programming procedure. I am using dual drawer version 4.03sp creating a primary radio and programming it sucessfully ignoring the error l41-10 for the missing drawer. Then programming with Ham 502 it still comes up with the error 41-10 so it still knows it is ...

Its been a long time since I messed with x9k's I had forgotten about the double programming trick. I last used that trick to setup a VHF VRS in a 440-470 unit a very long time ago.

Is there a way to get the UHF radio on the dual radio setup into the ham band. The RSS I found does not support it. Is there an easy fix with a hex editor or a different version of dual drawer RSS?

It can be a pain but once its done it works great. I think this is the only radio Motorola made that does a goods job as a scanner also. Mine seems to rx narrowband pretty well also. I havent tried to decode pl on a narrowband signal with it though. That would be an interesting experiment. Chris N9LLO

Might not be the last word, but for now we have guidelines that effectively halt any plans to do any narrowband conversions on old radio equipment intended for part 90 use.

Try putting the old battery in the deep freeze for a while. Then give it several sharp hits on the seal line. I used a small hammer that came with some kids toy set, never tried it on a saber battery but worked pretty on some others I have done.

900 for sure. Shorter wavelength's penetrate smaller openings like the vertical plenums aboard ship and portholes for ship to shore comms in port.

There is a blocking diode to prevent battery voltage from being present at the charge terminals, otherwise you could short circuit the battery across those terminals accidently. There is a thermistor to measure battery temp that may be high resistance coupled to the battery + therefore your odd volt...
