Re: Motorola to split into two companies
Dan, It's worse than that with the PE. You have to first take the Fundamentals of Engineering, which means that you have to have graduated from an ABET accredited college. After passing that and four years of experience (if you graduated from an engineering program), only then can you take the PE ex...

Re: Type II Trunking Question for the experts
Would you be willing to give us the model number at the least? Or the options installed on the radio? I agree with Wavetar's summation. I'd look into it further, but the following applies.
If the admin isn't willing to let you put it on the network, you shouldn't do it.

There is an option, Multi PL Capability X286 which allows for the capability of using up to 12 PLs and 1 DPL on a single frequency. Whether it'll get you what you want, I'm not sure.

Re: Trunking Vs. Conventional - What would you do?
I stand corrected sir, and I do apologize. I was looking at the user manual, which indicates that the value 2 represents 6.25 KHz, and assumed that since it was shown in the Saber manual, that it was capable of it. Portables is not my strong-suit; I shall try to refrain from being "helpful"...

Re: Trunking Vs. Conventional - What would you do?
On top of that, The FCC is about to force us all to go through several steps of narrow banding – Eventually ending up at 6.25 channel spacing. Since (almost) no radios today support that, why pay extra money for trunking radios when they will all have to be replaced by a certain date? Not sure I ag...

Re: Trunking Vs. Conventional - What would you do?
If you take a look at most police or fire dispatch channels, you will find that their duty cycle (i.e., how many seconds of the day the transmitter is keyed up) is hardpressed to get much above 1-2%. The channel is idle (but waiting for traffic) all the rest of the time. Putting aside the motives o...

Re: Trunking Vs. Conventional - What would you do?
If you have the coverage needed, the equipment provides the safety required and can handle the incidents, then stick with what works. The question you asked is kinda vague, as I don't know what the requirements for the system are. If you could use multiple talkgroups, want to tie into a zone, then g...

There's a few but I don't know the ones offhand. I'll look into it, and if I find anything I'll let you know.
If you have CSDM, go to File, Configuration Report. It'll tell you the information you most likely need.

Re: MCC5500 66 block punch down connections neded
If you have MCC500s then you have the CSDM software. It is supposed to be installed on a dedicated computer, though I know of uncertified configurations that have it on the same computer. The CSDM software should be able to tell you the wireline configuration of the stations.

Re: Those Panter88 XTS-2500s??
:o I think people need to relax a bit. You will have to hex edit if you're trying for the low end of the 900 band, and if you're really feeling frisky you'll try to replace the VCO to get it to do the whole band. If you get a Range 1 UHF, you wouldn't have to modify the radio for amateur bands (thou...

Re: Those Panter88 XTS-2500s??
Just FYI: You don't MODIFY these radios to work in the amateur band. You just program the frequencies in. The 2M amateur band is within the bandwidth supported by the radio. I consider hex editing modifying. =) If you're being really crazy, you play with the VCO. I've never really liked the looks o...

yes but Motorola's action should be against the company they contract to dispose of said items, not a purchaser acting in good faith. If the item isn't reported stolen, it isn't contraband and Motorola can go FOAD as far as I'm concerned. If they don't want these "second rate" scrap radio...

You have to think about it this way. If we're talking about DIYers here, I could understand how you might repair a radio and have it that way. However, a secondary end-consumer (i.e. eBay) should not be seeing radios with that serial number. If you get a radio with a development codeplug, should tha...

I would regard any with that serial number of 123ABC1234 as a stolen item. That serial number is an internal Motorola serial number, and shouldn't leave the doors. You would never see that serial number on a customer radio.

If memory serves, Smartnet/SmartZone uses a 3600 Baud, which would be the Q806. P25 Trunking systems use 9600 baud, which would be Q361.

Re: What would you change in ASTRO products?
The argument that I've heard against multiband radios is the preselector filter. Nevertheless, I've brought it up again. It's a great idea, and would be pretty useful for UHF and VHF. I imagine it could be done fairly easily with the 700/800s. Are there any band prefs? Keep it coming.

Re: What would you change in ASTRO products?
These are good ideas, keep 'em coming. I've always heard lots of complaints about not having a top display, and I think that that feature would be requested fairly often. The problem with the 5000s and the 2500s is they really don't have the real estate up top to put a display there. Maybe the Model...

"Multikey Feature
This feature allows the radio to be equipped with multiple encryption keys. It can support up to two
different encryption algorithms simultaneously (e.g., DVP-XL and DES-XL)."
I think even the 2500s have the capability as well.
