While there is no “legitimate” way, I once purchased a 6000 full keypad radio that started off life as a 1.5 radio. So a previous owner changed the 5AN to a 7AN. And it worked perfectly. GARY.

I own both. Except for the thin grey border around the PTT button on the “E”, they work the same. Both radios have the hottest receiver I have ever seen. I figured since they were the full band split vs the 6550, they’d be slightly deaf, but that’s not the case. GARY

Since your radio is still 3600 trunking, & not yet DMR, that’s the missing step. You have to enable DMR which also enables the radio to do 902/927, but you lose the 3600 trunking. Buy a used XP laptop. Plenty around for $50. End of problem. OTOH, I once owned a MCS2000, & I couldn’t get it to program through the mike jack. I had to program it through the acc jack on the bottom of the radio. GARY.

I use the typical Motorola external speaker on mine. With the gen 2 radios, & the auto leveling entitlement, it evens everything out. And when you connect an external speaker, the internal speaker still works. But I don't hear it because the external speaker is so much louder. GARY

No. I have been using both base mikes on both radios, & it doesn't seem to make a difference. Also people tell me my TX audio on my XTL5000 in the car sounds better with a XPR mike, the RMN5053A vs the proper HMN1090 XTL mike. GARY

The XPR radios are totally different from anything you programmed 15 years ago. Also most modern radios do not use a rib any more. My XPR programming cable uses a USB connector, & my 1250 cable uses a serial port, but neither uses a rib. But today there is You Tube to watch, & learn. Good luck.

Yes on both. But on these newer antennas, 16 cm, & 14 cm, that area is black. So what bandsplit would that be? On the older antennas, it was the color of the plastic between the hole for the center pin, & the threads. GARY.
