I mean, a new connector IS nice... Mini-UHF has been a shitty connector since, well, ever. But, how about a BNC? Or a TNC, like they use on many of the Euro radios? No, let's go to a QMA, a connector most of us hadn't heard of until Moto started using it.

I've seen it happen in newer Astros, but will dramatically less frequency. Hard to tell if that's a function of age or if things got better in later years. But I don't have anything Spectra/Astro Spectra left.

Software AES is likely due to the DHS ruling that, if a radio implements a proprietary encryption algorithm for free, it must also implement the P25 standard AES to be eligible for grant funding. This is a way of dealing with people getting locked into Moto gear through the use of ADP.

Not true at all (unless it's some weird 6000 thing???) Audio profile settings very much make a difference in DAQ from the XE mic. Here's what I came up with. These settings were optimized for FD use but I've found they work well for ham or general usage: http://batboard.batlabs.com/viewtopic.php?f=...

You're talking about a satellite phone... the antenna is slightly more complex that an NMO mount, a piece of wire, and maybe a loading coil. They are active antennas with preamps inside, etc. The HX antenna is the best solution for a vehicle.

LMR240 is RG8X size, and connectors should be compatible.
I'm thinking LMR200 or a knockoff thereof... .005" bigger than RG58, with its own connector family.

Even if you could, why would you want to? The PA isn't built for that, the radio isn't certified for that, you will dramatically increase power consumption, and you aren't going to dramatically increase performance even if you double the power (that's 3dB).

Nope, you get zone name when in the zone list, and channel name otherwise. Unless you're in a C+ zone, then you get zone names for the C+ zones and "zone 2", "zone 3", etc. for the non-C+ zones because the radio is a special kind of stupid in that regard.

You also need the proper version of RF deck and recent firmware if you want to operate on splinter channels. Not really an issue for hammy service, but if you want to program interops, etc. in, you'll have issues.
