The preselector in VHF/UHF stations is just a simple bandpass filter. It's much easier to tune on a spectrum analyzer with a tracking generator, which your 3550 should have. I've never had a problem getting one right on the nuts with >2dB insertion loss.

You need an AstroTAC 3000 to act as the hub for both Quantars and both DIUs. No way around it in your desired config, unfortunately.

Algo upgrades for DIU crypto boards are NLA from M, so you're on your own there.

Everything is interchangeable between CLB and CXB stations. If your station won't make power even at the lowest setting on the power control pot then something is wrong. Weak transistors in the PA not producing power at the "expected" level versus input power can trip the PA Fail alarm... ...

I encounter this all the time on ham repeaters. Adding to what others have said, using braid over foil cable like LMR400/600 on a full duplex run can also cause this. I strongly recommend tossing the LMR and replacing it with 1/2'' FSJ4-50B ultraflex Heliax.

Yes, both radios can TX and dual concurrent RX is supported. Won't work on a 2500, only the 5000 supported it. IIRC the only deployed configuration used 110W 380-470 and 136-174 bricks. No s-meter or RSSI function on conventional. :(
