The preselector in VHF/UHF stations is just a simple bandpass filter. It's much easier to tune on a spectrum analyzer with a tracking generator, which your 3550 should have. I've never had a problem getting one right on the nuts with >2dB insertion loss.

You need an AstroTAC 3000 to act as the hub for both Quantars and both DIUs. No way around it in your desired config, unfortunately.

I encounter this all the time on ham repeaters. Adding to what others have said, using braid over foil cable like LMR400/600 on a full duplex run can also cause this. I strongly recommend tossing the LMR and replacing it with 1/2'' FSJ4-50B ultraflex Heliax.

Yes, both radios can TX and dual concurrent RX is supported. Won't work on a 2500, only the 5000 supported it. IIRC the only deployed configuration used 110W 380-470 and 136-174 bricks. No s-meter or RSSI function on conventional.
