this was a problem with every single MCS 2k radio that i owned.

i once had a 110w uhf tray that drew damn near an AMP when off.

sent it to the depot (when it was in the USA) - "could not replicate problem"

whatever


i sold them all.... good riddance to that series...

just as a point of reference, the KVL kept at most Moto shops for working on fed agency radio installs only has the KLK/KEK loaded into it. if memory serves, the KMF back in the day was a MDC1200 based system. this is how it worked: tech works on radio tech blasts radio with KEK tech calls dispatch ...

i would try a new SCM and see if that fixes the problem.

i have seen some wierd crap on quantar stations... and i don't even deal with them that often.

perform a complete alignment and check the OFB trunking channels to make sure that something isn't in there that is out of range....


i have seen this before with the same symptoms you describe... and it was due to a 178MHz channel being in one of the OOB trunking personalities....

i dunno terry... there are a :o TON of 3k+'s in use today... many more than the 3k. when the 3k came out... all it had over a T3011DX was the ability to load multi-algos.... so very few people upgraded their T3011's. AES changed that game though... mainly due to that and CKR vice PID key storage.......

and KVL3000 upgrades were DISCO'd a LOOOONG time ago.

those upgrades went the way of the DODO as soon as the KVL3000+ came out.... "planned obsolescence"

no firmware or algo adds are available. period.

a few, FEW... very select customers have field units on VHF/700-800

they are engraved on the front as beta test units.


the one i handled is a very slick radio... display is great... GPS works great.

antenna length ... sucks.

was developed for Type 1 encryption.

was first radio to use an integrated vocoder (a la Astro saber) vice the 3 board layout of the XTS 3000.

no trunking option was ever officially available for the radio... any radio with trunking is Hax0r'd

the original intent with the MT / MTS series was a way to restrict the sales of the radio. just like the Saber / Systems Saber - the Systems Saber and the MTS series were considered High Tier "Private Systems" (Moto's terms) radios. They were not orderable from the run of the mill Moto sho...

the upgrade is actually a field orderable item for the KVL3000+ --- not a flash item for the radio itself.

the "upgrade" consists of a PCMCIA card that goes in the KVL3000+ slot that upgrades the UCM via the KVL
