I suspect that the add on board is a whole five freq front end ...the main board channel 1 and front end are enabled with the SIMUL button with 2 -6 being selected for the secondary. In order to add just five channels you wouldn't need that much HW. The SIMUL button probably just grounds chan 1 all ...

do you have an older analog spectra or an Astro Spectra ? None of those heads will work on an Astro Spectra ...you may be able to update the firmware in the 1063 head to work though the 1033 head is the older 9000 series only the 1047 and 1063 should work on an old spectra if it is an A9 version radio

these are the fused front panel BNC connectors. A portion of the BNC unscrews and a 1/16 amp pico fuse is inside.

surprised the R1 and R2 exciter and PA didn't interoperate .
Usually an R2 exciter would program down into the 140's and a R2 PA cover down into that range as well.

the reason I mention that is if the radio doesn't have a tag it may be an analog version. normally you would get a codeplug too new error if this was a version issue. Pull the top cover and see which controller is installed. It may also be an Astro Spectra Plus which also uses a different CPS ....us...

the D version smartrib is only required for the 800 P25 trunking version firmware.
The standard non P25 trunking firmware will flash fine ...which is used everywhere else..like VHF and UHF which never supported P25 trunking.

I have never component leveled the FLASH failures ....just swapped the controller.
The price of 800 XTS's is low enough such that the parts and labor to repair not worth it.

IIRC correctly the front panel goes directly to the processor board.
On the 8924C it may get routed through a filter assembly. 25 pin D connector with some chokes for RFI ...once again going by memory.

there was a procedure ...believe here on this board ...to set the CAL temperatures.
Unit keeps a cold set of CAL and a WARM set IIRC.
First step in fixing or troubleshooting any R26XX is to clear the NVRAM which forces it back through re-creating the CAL tables as well

usual fix is to tear apart the front panel and the TFT display to re-seat the internal connectors. I usually verify with the display outside the unit first and RTV the connectors as a final step before complete re-assembly. Same issue as the COM-120C ...uses same display. you may want to consider up...
