When I attempt to enter a frequency above 53mhz using the latest RSS I get an outside limit error and cannot enter it. Can 6 meter ham frequencies be programmed with this latest version of the RSS? I own both an HT1550XLS and a JT1000. The JT1000 seems better on transmit and the HT1550XLS seems better on receive. Both aren't terribly user friendly from an FPP perspective. In the end, I prefer the JT1000.

Pretty basic, a non-resonant antenna is not good. I would think that you would of come across that somewhere in exam theory for the license you hold.

I own an HT1550XLS and cannot recommend that you make the trade. I find that the unit has a superb receiver, but when it comes to transmitting, my HT1000 clearly outputs a stonger signal.

Has anyone come up with a solution for this issue. I've got a 2008 Charger with a 5.7L Hemi and experience such noise on VHF signals of marginal strength. Clearly I am dealing with radiated noise and it appears to originate at the coil packs/sparkplugs.

You might want to search the message base here. I know that there have been factory service bulletins issued for similar issues with various handheld transceivers of the Visar vintage. The depot replaced the display in my JT1000 recently at no charge due to pixel issues with it's display.

From listening to the clips, I much prefer the final digitized audio product from the Icom/D-Star. Then again, I prefer the analog audio from my JT1000 rx over the analog audio from my HT1550XLS. I'm just guessing that Motorola is processing the audio more before it is being digitized.

Belden's new 9913 no longer uses an air dielectric and is very similar to the LMR400. I would use either with N connectors. Feedline loss can be a significant factor for both transmit and receive at 800mHz. I would avoid RG213 as it is not designed for use at such frequencies.

Maybe one of the engineering types can provide the formula that shows the maximum theoritcal distance a usable signal can travel based upon line of sight, power and wavelength. I know that it exists, and that the greatest distance attainable would be low band.
