Sorry because I wasn't subscribed I didn't see the reply. Wavetar is correct on pricing, but you lose some ruggedness/IP rating and the display is nowhere near as rugged on the APX900 vs the rest of the line.

We have a few thousand in service across a few departments. You name the problem, we've seen it. Bad boards in the heads, bad cables, bad connectors, bad strain relief. Hundreds of them have been swapped out over the last three years. All XE with XT cables.

If your programmer set the battery type in CPS to UL and you use a non-UL battery you will get that error, it's to prevent mixing and matching non-certified batteries. You need to use gray labeled UL/TIA4950 batteries with the 8000XE in this case. Also, were all the new 'unknown batteries' properly ...

This should be fixed in a few days with the release of r16. It works as intended on a FM 6kXE though. You won't see any options available if the radio doesn't have FM or UL certification.
