The easy way to tell is to pull out your multimeter, and check continuity between the connector and the shell of the RF connector to locate the ground pin.

Re: Controlling multiple base stations over telco dry pairs
If you have line of sight, rather than converting to ROIP over wifi, I would look at using some of the Adtran Tracer microwave bridges. These are license free 2.4 or 5.8Ghz radios, with advertised ranges out to about 20-30 miles. Current products have capacities ranging from mixed 8xT1/16Mbs, up to ...

With the right parts, you could use two of the pairs to create a third "phantom circuit". You would need 2 pairs of center tapped repeat coils (transformers to the rest of us). Tellabs 4421/4422 or 4424/4425, Wescom 730, or Western Electric types. I know WE 111C's will work, but they are p...

An easy way to confirm would be to terminate the input/output of the amp, and hook the rf output of the cradle to a wattmeter+dummy load or service monitor, and see what the output level is from the cradle. Your license shows 25 MO @4w on 451.9, and 456.9, and a single FB2 @45w on 451.9.
A pretty standard setup.
Your repeater is going to be listening on 456.9, and transmitting on 451.9, and the portables will be reversed, 451rx/456tx.

I just checked the license, and your system is narrowband (11K2F3E). Even if it wasn't, you would have until 2013 to change to narrowband. The MX's are wideband, so you would first need to convert the MX to narrowband operation, which is non-trivial. The mods will also void the type acceptance, mean...

You could also try looking for a Motrac or Motran.. I actually have a working loband Motrac sitting here, with a Mocom-70 head on it.
If you use a Maxtrac, you could probably wire a small relay to take the PTT from the mic, and use it to key the radio, and the transmit light.
