I have managed to successfully extract a few connectors from damaged housings for 'emergency' repairs.

You can perform surgery on the RF input pin and solder an attenuator from the buffer output to the RF input pin.
Best method is to obtain a low output radio as suggested. Those nasty spurs will come back to bite you when you least expect it.

The P.A module is soldered to the board, so you will have to heat the board near the flanges to lift the module from the board.

Many times, the RX/TX delay is improperly set.
I still do not 'get' why this particular setting has a minimum setting of 1 second to switch from RX to TX.
This makes no sense to not make this setting more adjustable, as in allowing mS changes instead of that 1 second setting.

Check the type of squelch activity you are using.
And/Or, and muting type must be compatible.

The IF Xtals are easy to replace, and if an error as great as 2Kc is apparent on the fundamental, it MUST be replaced, as the end freq. error will be far greater with the operating frequency of the channel you are using, and the RX suffers even more.

since you admit to operating the duplexer at below the minimum split, you are losing any separation of TX and RX, allowing one to cause desense to the other, I.E..TX into RX side.

No matter what you do, you can NEVER make a VHF radio work in the low VHF band, the RF section is a band specific item, and the radio will not work.
If the radio is in the 146-174 mHz. band, you can alter it to work a little above and below its rated band split, but not THAT low, it is impossible ...

Try reading the radio, but it sounds like a response to a QCII call alert.
My CP200 responds to a call alert in this very manner.

I suggest you read the codeplug, and find out what options the radio is capable of.

I have power attenuators in stock, from 3dB to 50dB.
And I am familiar with the input attenuator levels for the TX testing. I prefer having the direct ability, above the attenuator version.
That leaves too many dongles on the bench for my tastes, but I see what you mean.

Good deal on the GTX portable, just don't 'lose' the SMA adaptor that is screwed into the radio.
If anybody does lose one, I have a couple of spares from previous service duds I squirrelled away.

The single greatest feature of the 8924C IMHO is the autotune feature on the transmitter test. Key up a radio and it automatically tunes to the carrier frequency. Makes transmitter alignments an absolute breeze.

I wish I had the 60 watt option, but have the low ball variety, 3 Watt version ...

You have real boat anchors there, as most if not all, are privacy plus systems, and NOT compatible with any modern trunked system currently in use.

Stay away from ANY portable antenna for mobile use, especially at the power rating you described.
H.T antennas are not designed for that power level, the RF current melts connecting joints, warps field patterns, and will cause damage due to radiation resistance of the antenna itself.

Even that error level is too much for my liking....That will lead to large excursions as you 'wander' up the frequency and can lead to errors several kHz. off channel.

You may have a recased Euro version of the Saber, the 3000, and that RSS is different from the US version.

Take off the front shield and note the board number if possible, that should also indicate the model type, from model I, II or III.

There should also be some conductive cloth/foam pads on one or more shields, and the P.A should have a shield around it as well.
The controller board and main board can have their associated board edges built up with solder to make better contact with the upper shield.
