Motorola will not provide a DSM for that radio for any reason. In the past we got restricted DSMs via CD and FedEx signed delivery. Motorola has too much IP leakage and just doesn't provide the documentation anymore. Only hope is send it in.

Recover the radio and try again.
Also, power switch off. Radio battery placed on radio. Radio still powers up? Or only gets lost when you throw the battery on while the power switch is on?

The synthesizer can't lock likely because the reference oscillator crystal is not running. Chances are, impact damage or a bad solder connection in that area. IF you find a defective crystal, the radio will need alignment if replaced. Poke around in that area and see if you can get the radio to go b...

You have to order the complete control top, and specify color. There are different part numbers for each color. About $400.
Parts ID can get you the correct P/Ns.

Your best bet would be to take your radio to an automotive paint shop and have them color match a quart for you. Probably the only way you will get what you need. As far as I know, Moto no longer has touch up paint since all the cases are made in Malay.

The all band antenna shipped with the APX8500 is a QMA. I just made a pair of patch cables from QMA to N for wattmeters and testing, and gave a set to each tech and installer. Yeah, it's a PITA, but I haven't see an adapter kit that has them - yet.

IF you can get the RF module, it requires good skills to remove and replace. You will also need to adjust bias current in autotune with an Aeroflex with the current shunt. You should trim the antenna according to the cutting chart. The antenna for low band is only good for a small (1.5mHz) range, and you cannot 'tune' a Waris Series HT, other than in tuner to set the rated power output.
