Spectra Mode Names Unavailable
I am dealing with the learning curve on Spectras, having not used them before. In programming a VHF A5 dash mount Spectra I noticed the channel (mode) names were just 1, 2, 3 etc. rather than alpha-numeric as on all the other Spectras I have. Wait a minute! The Motorola plugs are jumbo and much larger than a standard banana, since they have to carry up to about 40 Amps. At least that is the way they are on my S1305 and S1306 Motorola Ratelco power supplies. Mother Moto has kindly NLA'd them but most of us bought ours ages ago. The plugs ...

I presume you found the Syntor X pages on the web which show the cable and colored plug pinouts. And I assume you have that part correct. In my inventory I have RTK 4057A and RTK 4058A cables. These are terminated in the Micor and later style male metering plugs and at the other end of the cable have a modular telephone style plug. Can't seem to find what they go with. Anyone familiar with these?

Yes, Bomar says they will make crystals, but the key is "at a decent price." $ 50+ per crystal is a bit much, but then I am a cheap old ham. Quartslab in the UK may be an alternative but I have not tried them.

Quite. The value is in the head and cables, and the mounting rack, and then only to police motorcycle restorers. I have bought plain radio drawers like this in the past on eBay for $ 20-30, and that was before it became impossible to get crystals at a decent price if at all.

You might check back and let us know how adding tabs back to the VCO substrate strips worked as far as lock. I think I added them all back in and still couldn't get a lock. If you have a standard commercial range VHF chassis it is not going to work on 2 Meters as far as receive, at least not properly. Further to that, these radios require alignment at the specific frequencies desired. They are not plug-and-play. Depending on the radio you will also need specific jigs to connect the test equipment for the alignment, such as the HT220 antenna adapter box.

Current studies which are in process suggest TRBO is less than ideal.
