Yep... and if it's an old railroad radio, it may have a single front end in it - even narrower. The typical use case I see is an old railroad radio being repurposed for hamsexual activities... the radio will work, if a 10uV receiver is your goal.

Most of the Euro Moto stuff is BNC... I really wish they'd just go BNC everywhere and be done with it. Much better connectors.

You don't plug into the head, you plug into the radio. This is to ensure that you're actually keyloading the radio you think you are... someone hasn't switched the drawers on you.

I don't believe so, but you could assign them to some bogus, receive-only channel with a frequency/tone pair that will never happen. Alternately, repeat the assignment from channel 16 in all of them (I'm going to assume you're wanting to make 16 a fireground, emergency, etc. channel?)

XTL1500 - ignition sense disable?
So, the installation guide for the XTL1500 indicates that ignition sense is recommended for all mobile installations, but can be disabled in the CPS. With ignition sense set to blank (or to soft power off... tried both) I can't figure out how to force the radios to power up with providing them ignit...

Your system is way too fast. MCX1000 software is of the same ilk as Syntor software... you need a real boatanchor. I can get it to run on a 486SL/33 by disabling CPU cache and turning the processor speed down.

APX4000, APX 7000. The XTS5000s are used on the conventional UHF system. You are correct - only APX family supports P2/X2.

Houston FD recently switched over from their venerable UHF conventional system to a new Moto X2 TDMA system. Eventually HPD will move as well, and this system will become a true Phase 2 system. I have... for better or worse, the O3 receives all of its power from the deck via the control cable. Theoretically, the radio should operate properly with nothing more than +12 to the main power connector and an O3 mic plugged into the TIB. At least, that's what I've always found previously. The ASTRO25 line is very picky on CTCSS. I've had similar issues with a few repeaters - both public safety and amateur. Always a CTCSS problem... either deviation or slight frequency error.

I haven't pulled mine apart in a while, but I seem to recall the MUC boards are missing the power supply components, in preference of a single power supply for the whole unit. If I remember wrong, you could always bypass the supply and provide it DC directly. You'd need to confirm the input voltage....

I would advise staying away from the AVA. They're just a pain. Get a late model XTVA (F revision if you can) with the W3 HHCH, a pair of 3Ks or 5Ks based on your budget, and be happy.

Actually, you could run an amp... there are dual-band amps out there. You could also put a diplexer behind the XTVA, out to two single-band amps and single-band antennas. I wouldn't want to use this in a first-line public safety environment but it would be fine for a tech.

I've done the same thing, with the same results... no amount of adjustment could ever make them work right. I've had much better results with the CommPort and APX Bluetooth ear mic systems.

In a proper install, there is no inter-series jumper or adapter that is a great option. There's no special HUB for the W3 head. Just a standard mic clip. Don't use an adapter. It won't recognize C:\? Is that the same drive you have Windows on? It's likely formatted NTFS, which DOS doesn't grok. Put MRSS on the boot disk, or create a FAT32 partition on the hard drive.
