There is no difference in the front and rear control heads. They are exactly the same. Because the MCS2000 used a Y-cable to create the two control heads, there are no addressing requirements like on an XTL.

A button press or volume level change on one control head affects the other control head. This is why I usually end up putting in an amplified speaker that runs off the discriminator audio from the accessory connector on the second head, so that the two heads have independent volume controls. (Though the volume control for the second head would then be on the speaker.)

Actually, they are different in the MCS2000. The factory 'Y' cable did not carry the speaker audio into the rear control head. There was simply discriminator-level audio brought to a standard 2-pin speaker connector, which in turn connected to a powered amplified speaker...part# HSN4035...with it's own dedicated volume control on the side. The part# of the rear control head is HCN1120A, should be labeled "rear control head", and the volume control does absolutely nothing.
No trees were harmed in the posting of this message...however an extraordinarily large number of electrons were horribly inconvenienced.

Good info, wavetar. For future reference, is there any way to get power for the amplified speaker out of the control head, or do I always just need to go back to the transceiver accessory connector?
