HT1000's Tuning questions

Post by alex »

I have recently got two HT1000's that seem like their in desperate need of some tuning, since on any channel where there is not tone squelch setup, the radio is constantly in monitor, and just won't be quiet. I'd like to know if someone can post what the default values are for these radios so that I can make some adjustments. They are VHF, 5 watt units, and I do not have access to a service monitor.

Thanks,

Alex

Alex,
What I usually do is set for a value of five past the position where squelch closes. If there I experience intermod In use I'll go up five more. I haven't seen two radios with the same rx sq atten settings.

What radios do you own?: MTR2000, CDM1550, HT1250

HT1000 Constant Monitor

I suspect that a prior radio tech has opened the squelch wide, thinking that to do so is a good idea. (I disagree)

Just set the squelch in the RSS a little beyond where the radio quiets. However, be aware that the computer you are using to do the programming MAY be radiating a signal from its innards that can be picked up by a receiver on the bench. I stumbled across this pesky situation when I was tuning up a desktop repeater that constantly was keyed. After looking around for leakage from my VCR, satellite receiver, etc., I turned off the computer and the repeater shut down. My recently-installed 900 MHz Athlon computer happens to have a data bus that runs at 158 MHz- right on the repeater input!

It is ironic that modern, high-speed computers now are using data buses that can (and do) cause EMI to VHF and UHF radios.

Alex, also look in the Radio Wide under Controls for the the three position switch setup. I set that to A= PL ON B= carrier squelch and C = Direct, two channels for the cost of one!
Sometime dealers program the radio on a PL or DPL and think they get a more sensitive receiver by backing off the squelch setting to zero, great for squelch crashes on DPL!!!
