MT1000 RSS vs P200 RSS

Post by Purpleman »

Other than not allowing more than 6 channels, are there any ill effects of using P200 Lowband RSS to program a 42-54 MHz (modified) 32/99 channel MT1000?

Thanks,

Have you read the MT1000 with the P200 LB S/W yet ? That will kind of be the tell all of what comes up. It seems like the LB P200 was more of a re-labelled MT1000 than a P200. It's possible that the LB versions are interchanbeable like the VHF/UHF versions of the P200 and HT600 are. Just don't write the radio unless the radio is being rercognized as a push button channel switch rather than a rotary which could hose things.

You are correct that the two LB radios interchangeable. When the MT1000 was at end of life at the depot, we frequently used P200 boards when parts were NLA and there was a service contract on the MT. If not the radio was returned unrepaired. We had to use a lab version software for proper serial number entry.

If your doing the mods to move a radio to 6 meters from mine and Bob Meisters combined document then yes there can be issues,

I had 3 MT1000 low band 99 channel display models that thought they were HIGH BAND VHF because the wrong software was used.

All Display models of the low band MT1000, > 6 channels, should be PROGRAMMED with rss MT1000.exe, all 6 channel low band radios, either P200 or MT1000 models, should be programmed with rss p200lb.exe.

RF boards are swappable but from converting a dozen 6 channel P200's and 6 ch MT1000 LOW BAND models and a half dozen MT1000 99 channel models the controllers are not and the correct software should be used for the 6 ch and 99 ch radios as mentioned above.

You're reminding me of the time I picked up a box of VHF P200's for next to nothing. Nobody would touch them as they were all exibiting a constant error tone on power up. Turns out the astute DOC radio tech programmed them all with 136-150.8 codeplugs while they were 157-174 radios.
Apparently the radios needed to be disabled prior to sale and this novel approach rather than drilling thru them or otherwise maiming them did the job without the destruction. Restored them all simply by changing the bandsplit back, nice deal as they were going about $200 a pop at that time.

it's actually nice and pleasant for us surplus dumpster divers when you have smart techs like that.

The state of Arizona's DEPT OF PUBLIC SAFETY, nitwit radio techs used to drill thru the radios and then sell them on the surplus market.

Thought that I would throw my 2 cents into this thread. After doing the capacitor swap in a 6 channel MT1000 ( Thanks again Mike for your help finding the updated versions of the capacitors ) I went ahead and did the mod to both the LBP200 RSS and the MT1000 RSS. I was curious, so, I did read my 6 Channel MT1000 with the Regular MT1000 RSS. It did read the radio just fine, however the MT1000 RSS duplicated channel 6 two more times so it had 8 channels to display. I am guessing that as this RSS is more for the non low band MT1000's which were at least 8 channels ( aside from the greater than 8 channel low band MT1000's ) it did what it was supposed to do. I did delete the 2 extra channels and both radio and RSS were OK with this. As a rule I will definitely follow the advice above, but, if anyone was wondering, I thought I would help satisfy anyone else's curiosity.

Nice stage 2,

You can't beat a Mt1000LB or P200LB.

I have an Azden AZ61, 6 METER whiz bang synthesized 6 meter HT and while it has pseudo front programmability and 40 memories, it doesn't even come close to the Motorola's in actual on-air performance.
