motorola A8 headset usage issue

I have an issue with the A8's - I can communicate between walkie talkie when not connected to headset cable
I can also communicate when using the earphone shipped with the radios
Now for the issue when I connect a cable to use a heavy duty BTH headset like the racing community uses I can not use the PTT on the headset.
The cable works properly with a Motorola BPR40

I have found the A8 will transmit if you manually key the walkie then key the headset - this will allow the mic to pick up voice to transmit

Can anyone shed some light on this issue???

Yes this is with an A8

When I use the headset cable headset and a BPR40 all works properly
