The smaller XPR3500 uses the same battery, charger and antenna as an XPR7550 but does NOT use the same programming cable.

I can see no design reason why Motorola decided to change the accessory socket pin layout...the XPR3500 is around the same width as the XPR7550 so there is plenty of space.

How does the design process work....."lets use the same battery, charger and antenna but lets change the accessory socket pin out size so we can sell a few more programming cables" ??

Do not ever try to make sense of Motorola, you will lose your sanity if you do.

not just programming cables but speaker mics, headsets, etc.

If you bothered to compare the housings of the two radios you'd see there's not enough real estate on the smaller XPR3000 series to accommodate the latch the 6000/7000 connector uses. Rest assured Motorola would really prefer to use the same exact connector on every single radio, in the end it's a lot cheaper for them.

The nice thing is the factory 3500 cable retails for $20. GARY.

A REAL MOTOROLA cable sold by Motorola, but made in the Philippines. GARY.

OK - cheaper than the fleabay copies!!!!

You would think Motorola would be charging $120 not $20!!!

Buy a couple, they wear out fast after a few hundred radios.

Does the Motorola online MOL "database" list the price as $20 or is the official price higher and resellers are discounting?

Don't know. Just know I paid $20 from a US dealer. GARY
