Motorola Micom 2ET "MCS2000" head - standard mic?

Post by g8tzl2004 »

Does a Motorola Micom (MOBAT) 2ET HF radio with a remote head (which looks like an MCS2000 head) use a standard Motorola mic with standard pin outs?

Thanks

Not really. Some mikes will work, but be very careful with your pin out arrangements, as most mikes have the HUB pin grounded, whereas the Micom has +V on that pin. Smoke ensues.

OK thanks com501.

It looks like the real Micom 2 hand mic for a "MCS2000" type head is a FMN1615A.

This looks identical to a HMN3413 GM300 "all black" mic...but obviously is wired differently as per your warning.

I think this Micom 2 originally came with "probably" the wrong mic... it looked like an RMN4038B "heavy duty" style white mic (NOT the typical white mic which is a HMN1035). I don't know whether the previous owner ever used the "RMN4038B". So far I have only seen a picture of the Micom when he originally received the radio which included the "RMN4038B" heavy duty white mic rather than a real FMN1615A mic...the radio was working on RX... but the mic had not been plugged in at that stage...as far as I can tell !!! The owner is now SK.

Do you know if a RMN4038B can be used with a Micom?

Any idea what happens if you use the wrong mic...are you blowing a fuse or something worse?

It shows how careful you need to be....its so easy to assume that a Micom "MCS2000" head will use any standard Motorola mic!!!

I'm glad I am over cautious!!!

Thanks
