CDM1250 TX / RX issues

Post by OldDawg »

I have a 1250 with an issue I've never seen before. No rx and a noisy tx.

Anyone ever seen that before?

A common cause of noisy transmit is loose chassis screws, you can pop off the plastic cover and snug them up.

Also could be a defective mini-UHF female connector. The inner contact gets spread open by improperly crimped or soldered male connectors plugged into them, and fails to make a connection. Acts as a capacitor. Sometimes another cable will work fine. The only cure is to replace the mini-UHF female connector on the radio's main board and then figure out which male connector has an oversize center pin, and get rid of it.

It could also be a bad antenna, antenna cable, PIN diodes, etc.
Hard to tell with the amount of information given. We don't know if it was bench tested, if the output power and antenna system were checked with a watt meter, or if they're just listening to it on another radio and saying it's "noisy". This is why it's important to give as much pertinent information as possible when asking a question.
