800Mhz, Trunking. How Do I Set Up Radio..?

Post by hvacesu78 »

Hi All,
I would like to set up an 800mhz MTX8000 - H01UCH6DB7AN to simply receive on some conventional and trunking systems.
I was able to compile scanner lists and obtain trunking Info/sys ids etc.

How can I set this up?
Do I need these SYSTEM KEYS?
Am I better off just programming to RX in Conventional?
If It can be done.. can any one giude me/give me a crash course?

thanks in advance for the help..

SHEESH ! more Barbarians at the gate !

All you people giving advice to future bootleggers better stop
and think, if they were authorized users, the system administrator
would have issued them a radio, or programmed it for them.

To answer your question, ask the owner of the trunked system
(or the manager of it). They should be your single point of contact
when it comes to putting a new radio on their system.

You "special" people just think it is because M requires you to have a system key. As long as I own MY radio, I will program it with WHATEVER I want, so long as I am not TX'ing in any way (even affiliating!) to the system. It is my RIGHT to listen to whatever I want, and I'm not letting M and their system keys stop me from tuning in..

Aren't you the same wise ass in legal trouble over this ?

You're in Canada, therefore some laws will be different than in the US.
The FCC will presume possession has equivalent to use. In other words,
if you have transmit capable equipment for frequencies you are not duly
authorized for, you are in violation of the law.

The trunking vs. conventional argument is irrelevant.

The system key falls under the purview of intellectual property.
And Motorola will aggressively prosecute violators that affect the
integrity of their customers systems, and their IP rights. There
was a case in your country about 3 yrs ago if I'm not mistaken,
where a fellow was made an example of by Motorola. Evidently,
you will be the next one.

We "special" people (who own and manage these 7 digit wide
area systems), sure do have a problem with unauthorized radios
piggybacking on our infrastructure. You want to monitor ? then
go get a Trunk Tracker !

Well,
Interesting......
My intention as indicated in the original post was to 'simply monitor.' I just wanted to clarify that point. I was not looking to piggyback or raid a system of some sort. And I the "barbarian", nor, are my fellow 'bootleggers' (as you indicated) are looking to transmitt w/o authorization, umm i think thats referred to as common sence/illegal, btw.. thank you for the case law update..

Seeing how I am not so very familiar w/ trunking as you both seem to be I was only asking for advice....from the forum, not a reprimand. Thank You, Now i sorta understand what the system key is.

Now... back to the board..... can I then set up this radio.. .LIKE a trunk tracker then?? Or am I better just putting in the freqs. in conventional to monitor.
Thank you.
John
