XTL2500 Mobile - Monitor "stuck" ON

Post by roepkcs »

remote head XTL 2500. Monitor stays on regardless of on/off hook. Result is that radio will not scan and of course open to all traffic. Have other 2500's that have been cloned with same programming, work fine. Clip is grounded, no issues there. Radio was taken in for service (El Paso (Mex) ) returned. worked fine for about 1 week. Exhibits same problem now. Wiring? it seems pretty striaght forward. swapped Mic's as well

Any thoughts appreciated!

Your going to have to get inside this radio and head to prove if the hangup circuit is functioning. I would
first start looking to see if the control head is indicating monitor and see if the monitor button on the head
is working.

There are a couple of items that could cause the problem. Your just going to have to walk through them
one at a time. I would start by making sure with a volt meter in the Ohms range that your hang up clip
is in fact grounded. Make sure the radio is at the same ground reference. See if you get a voltage from
the mike round button on the rear to ground. This will tell you if the circuit is even supplying the bias to
the rear button on the mic.

Can't help you much more until you come back with some indications of what you have found. I would
also double check the software to make sure someone didn't fat finger the channel your having a problem
with. You didn't mention if this was with one channel only or all the channels in the radio. We need to
know this to go much further.

it's a glitch in the codeplug or firmware. Just program a button for it.

Is there a difference in potential from the mic clip to the radio ground? What kind of vehicle is this in? Is it a 12 volt system or is there a voltage converter involved?

I cheap way around it is to program the radio to ignore the mic clip..but still won't resolve the underlying problem.

I had this problem with a cloned codeplug.

Start from scratch with a new blank codeplug and see if the problem goes away. Something in the code was messing with the radio. This has happened on both portables and mobiles.
