Motorola PURC 5000 350W Amplifier - Specifications?

Post by d119 »

Does anyone know what the specifications and requirements are for a Motorola TLD2742A PURC 5000 350W amplifier?

I understand this is a VHF-Highband amplifier, but I need to know what the voltage requirements are, drive power, and basically how this amplifier could be used outside of the PURC 5000 itself.

Anyone have any knowledge on these?

Without looking at any manuals, I'd suspect it's just like the MSF5000 high-power VHF stations: the IPA puts out a few watts, a Driver PA ups that to 75-150 watts, and a Final PA boosts that to 350 watts, with forward and reflected power sensors everywhere. The VHF stations used 28V for the PAs, where all the others used just 14V. Power control is done in the RF Tray by sensing the power going to the antenna jack and regulating the IPA drive.

Chris
Although my manual doesn't have any specifics with reference to the 350 watt there is one little blurp I found interesting
"25 Watts, VHF- maybe used as a final amplifier for the 25 watt configuration or as a driver amplifier in the 350 watt configuration"

May the Schwarz be with you.

Driver PA: 1/2 to 5 Watts in from IPA, 12-22 Watts out.

Final PA TLD2742A (146-174 MHz) Input level 10 to 15 W., output 350 to 410 Watts.

Runs on 28 VDC - a whole LOT of it - two TPN1260A power supplies in parallel. They are each rated at 27-32 VDC @ 19.5A in addition to other voltages for other parts of the station.

The 350 Watt station draws 1610 Watts from the AC line when transmitting.

OK, so something on the order of a 50A 28V supply, along with 10-15W Drive would produce rated power on this amplifier?

THANK YOU gentlemen for the information. This helps me get this guy going with his amplifier.
