looking for an mdc modem /stat alert card

Post by turtle9832 »

I am looking to add MDC signaling to our uhf system. our base is a centra com II which has been upgraded to a gold elite. I am looking to get the hardware that decodes the mdc signal that is sent from our ht1000's. I dont know the correct term, but the tech's said that we need a, "stat alert card" or an, "mdc modem"

does anyone know the part number for this item?

or can someone tell me where I can get one for a price other than the $2,000.00 the tech's said it would cost for this card plus labor?

I am not going to install this myself. I myself know very little about radio hardware. I have however learned a lot from this well put toghether and well run board.

thanks in advance

Also, if I have the terms or descriptions of this equipment wrong, i apologize.

You do have the terms correct.

You need the following to make this happen:

1 MDC Modem
1 Aux II interface
1 Cable between Aux II and MDC Modem
Proper programming & installation.

My suggestion would be to get the hardware from your service vendor and have them install it. Especially if it is a life/safety system.

I would only tackle it if you were OK for the console system to be down for a couple of days (maybe longer). There are some pitfalls that are not evident that may be difficult to recover from.

A Centracom system is not good traing grounds for someone that "knows very little about radio hardware".

A couple of days? To install a SigBim/MDC modem?

I hope you're joking... That's an hour job max to configure the cards, put them in, and reprogram the CEB/OP's. The only thing that'd be down would be that resource.

I just saying that a person without any experience or prior knowledge has the possibility of "taking the CEB down" and could spend a couple of days trying to recover.

Yes a knowledgable person would have it done in a few hours.

Those part numbers are correct, I personally verified it on my CEB. Don't forget the interconnecting cable.
