Whelen Linear8 LED ballast

Post by mottyk »

Does anybody know if it is possible to use the linear8 leds without using the CSL2 or CSL4 ballast? I took these out of a friends car from the mirror beams but I did not know that it had a ballast, and I would like to avoid the expense if possible.
Thanks,
Mottyk

If the LEDs require a ballast, they require a ballast.

If they don't require a ballast (they're passive), then you don't need to use a ballast.

Make sense?

What radios do you own?: X9000 thru APX

Last time I looked, the LED power supplies new were fairly inexpensive. "Active" LED's require a ballast (LED voltage isn't 12vDC), "Passive" LED's require an electronic flasher - 12vDC.

Active LEDs are typically the 1st generation "Linear" style LED's. The 5MM and TIR3/6 LEDs will work with normal electronic flashers or 12vDC. Everything has been "passive" for at least two years now (generally speaking).
