CDM series USB programming cable

Post by Jtsou »

I've noticed that the rear connector of the CDM series as seen here:

Has a UART RX on pin 6 and a TX on pin 8. Can a simple USb>TTL adaptor be used to program this radio after connecting a ground as well? This seems to simple and I would try it but I want to get opinions before bricking a radio.

I know the USB>TTL works great for programming the Minitor series of pagers, so I was wondering if it could be used to program the CDM radios as well.

Thanks for any insight.

What radios do you own?: APX6000, APX7000, Quantar, XPR

The CDM series takes the same programming cable as a GM300.

So the answer is yes.

I purchased a usb programming cable from online. it uses a prolific chip, and i have installed the drivers for it. I get the "couldnt open port, check rib, etc" error. I am using the correct port. When i try to read the radio, the radio is unresponsive, so there is some kind of connection here however i am unable to read the code plug through the CPS. I am using ver 6.12.05, it is supposedly compatible with win7. I have tried several things such as running in compatability mode for XP, running as admin, etc. I think the error is somewhere in the settings for the cable. I have tried using different port speeds and different ports but I get the same error.

Update: I have corrected this issue. To help anyone else, if you are using a Prolific chipset for your USB cable you must roll back the drivers to version 3.2.

Good info, thanks. I've still been trying to get my TRENDnet TU-S9 to cooperate with the Motorola CPS. It works just fine with CHIRP, but it will not read an ASTRO25, ASTRO, or MTS2000 series radio though.
