MTX9250 Software editing for Ham

Post by 4n6inv »

Does anyone have the patience to work with someone to hex edit the CPS for the MTX9250? I evidently am a complete idiot.
I have the CPS ver. R02.01.03 and Hex Workshop, but can't seem to locate the addresses mentioned in previous posts. Can anyone steer me in the right direction? This is my first hex editing session, so BE NICE!

Thanks,

Jim

I also ran into the same problem. The post from N9LLO was for CPS R01.03.06-AA and I ordered HVN9067J from Motorola but received R02.01.03-AA and the hex locations to edit were different. After a little searching I found them.
For others editing the new CPS_95nt.exe file for Ver R02.01.03 to change the string 9428 BB37 to D410 6835,
Change the strings above at all of these locations:

19E60
1A928
89184
8D126
1FFAB8
1FFAF4
1FFD2E
1FFD6A
2000D0
20010C
200148
200184
2001A2
2001DE

I still owe N9LLO a great deal of gratitude. Without his post it would have been a lot harder to do.

Ah! So I see said the blind man, to his deaf wife! I went the route of finding the strings and changing them. This drove me NUTS for awhile, but I figured it out! End result is that it worked and the radio works GREAT!

Thanks for the update!

I have a very recent version of R02.01.03-AA and found the following differences for the string 9428 BB37:

Previous Found
19E60 19E74
1A928 1A93B
89184 89185
8D126 8D128
1FFAB8 1FFAD4
1FFAF4 1FFB08
1FFD2E 1FFD44
1FFD6A 1FFD78
2000D0 2000EC
20010C 200120
200148 200154
200184 200188
2001A2 2001BC
2001DE 2001F0

I changed those locations to the D4 10 68 35 and it appears to have worked. They are pretty close to the previous post. I thought I was going nuts at first, but the locations are offset by the same amount.

Has anyone put in a 2.x codeplug with R02.01.03-AA hex edited on the 9250s? You get the warning about the codeplug change. As I recall, you cannot go back even if you saved out the old cps data, correct?

I suggest just searching for all locations containing 9428 BB37, verifying that they are band-edge limits, and replacing them with D410 6835. This is safer and more foolproof than looking for specific addresses.

CPS R02.01.03 will upgrade a codeplug from an earlier CPS series, and you will not be able to use the earlier version of CPS that programmed that codeplug. For example, you will be able to use R02.00.02 but not R01.03.06.

I have CPS R02.01.03-AA and found I needed to edit the string at the following locations:
19E74
1A932 into 1A93C
89184
8D126
1FFACC into 1FFAD6
1FFB08
1FFD42
1FFD74
2000E4 into 2000EE
200120
200152
200184
2001B6
2001E8-2001F2

I still can't pull the Rx side of the HTX9250 down below 935MHz. Anything I've missed?

Jim,

Your list doesn't look correct. How did you choose those locations?

There have been a number of questions concerning how you hex edit CPS for using an MTX9250 in the ham bands. Here are the modifications to Motorola Trunking Professional Radio CPS to allow use of the MTX9250 in the ham bands.

1. Install CPS
2. Locate the Motorola Trunking Professional Radio CPS folder
3. Make a backup copy of cps_95nt.exe and call it cps_95nt.bak
4. Open cps_95nt.exe with a hex editor
5. Using the search and replace command, change all occurrences of 9428BB37 with D4106835. The command should report changes in 14 places.

What you have just done is to modify the RX Lower Limit / TX Talkaround Lower Limit from 935.0125 MHz to 896.0125 MHz

For those interested, the tables below show the offset locations that you are changing for various versions of CPS.

I'm hoping some one can help me here I am having a tough time trying to hex edit the CPS. I'm using 02.03.00 I have installed the CPS and I can not locate the cps_95nt.exe file for the life of me. I am using hex work shop 4.2. I opened the setup.exe but I can not find 9428bb37 keeps coming up with zero instances. Also I can not locate some of the addresses that are stated above I can find 19C74 that is for 01.03.06 version of CPS. If I am doing something wrong please let me know I am currently banging my head against a wall right now.

I know this is an old topic, but does anyone have the out of band mods for CPS version R02.00.00-LA? I have a radio that someone changed the region code on.
"Archers."
"I beg pardon, sire. Won't we hit our own troops?"
"Yes....but we'll hit theirs as well. We have reserves....attack"
