XPR 6580 IS Battery

Post by KitN1MCC »

Well i picked up one of these monsters. i did the conversion from 3600 to analog and updated to the newest firm ware

here is the issue. the radio came with a "new battery" nntn8287a. it worked fine before i did the upgrades. now with the newer firm ware i get an wrong battery error.

is there a way to adjust this or do i need an nntn7789a battery

Not sure if op is still monitoring.

I thought the latest firmware had a drop down to select what version is battery was attached. According to my Mol 7789 shows not available however might be restricted to Canada.

The original version of the XPR6580IS was 1-watt output, and used the NNTN7789A battery. The newer "refreshed" version is 2-watts output, and used the NNTN8287A, as the original battery could not supply enough current for the higher output power. I can confirm the 7789 is no longer available, even here in Canada on our MOL account. Originally, you could not mix & match the batteries with radio revisions, you would get the error. I can't confirm if the newest firmware allows you to choose which battery is attached, as I haven't dealt with the radios in a couple of years now.

No the cps has no selection for battery type. I updated to latest and also got the battery error. I ended up for now putting piece of tape over center contact. Going to use that unmentionable software to try and force and older firmware in.

Im having the same issue with the wrong battery alert. The Cps 13.5 does not have a drop down menu to allow setting the battery certification feature
Has anyone else figured out a work around other then taping the battery so the Impress chip has no funtion

Yeah don't upgrade the firmware. If I left with the firmware that they originally were on there is no alert.
