XTL5000 - a few questions

Post by g8tzl2004 »

I have a couple of questions:

- the XTL5000 is a modern radio (same generation as the XTS5000) so why was the original W series heads used. With the blue vacuum "tubes" display , the W series heads look like they belong on a radio from 25 years ago!!!! In fact the MCS2000 had a nice big modern LCD display and they are over 20 years old!!

- Is there any reason to switch from a W5 to a O5 head other than it looks the business!! The O5 head looks like it was designed for the XTL5000 while the W series heads look like they were made for Spectra's...maybe they were???

Thanks

The "W" heads were a transition head when the XTL5000 first came out. The "W" heads were made for the Spectra series. The new control heads (05's) didn't come out for a year or so after the XTL5000's came out. The "W" heads were cancelled a year or so after that.
