XTS5000 or XTS2500
If you had to pick between a 5000 or 2500 which one would you pick? Does the fact that the 5000 being cancelled in november of this year play a role in what you would pick? Just curious.

5000. The 2500's option configurations are goofy, you have to be careful about 4MB vs. 8MB, and UCMs are a royal pain in the ass.
I also think the 5Ks "feel" better/more balanced in hand.

On a ruggedized issue, the 5000 beats the 2500 hands down. We repair the 2500s SMA, buttons and knobs daily as they are soldered directly to the board. We don't see nearly the amount of 5000s as compared to the 2500s.

I think the XTS5000 puts out one additional watt of power compared to its XTS2500 counterpart across most bandsplits.

XTS 5000 has 1W more only on VHF (and 0.5 W less on 700 MHz range). See spec sheet links below.speedbird727 wrote:I think the XTS5000 puts out one additional watt of power compared to its XTS2500 counterpart across most bandsplits.

XTS5000 hands down.
Re: XTS5000 or XTS2500
I would definitely choose the 5k over a 2500. I have a 5k and would only replace it with an apx7000

5000 for serviceability and expandability (encryption). The 5K is easy to fix if the knobs or case ever get fubar'ed, just slap a new one on. So long as the LCD isn't damaged, it's good as new. Much more rugged radio.
OTOH, the 2500 is more "carry friendly" but only slightly.
