APX7000 O5 erase keys from control head button sequence?

Post by motorola_otaku »

On the APX portable if you press and hold the top side button then press the emergency button it will wipe the secure keys. Is there a similar/same procedure for the APX7500 with an O5 head?

For the XTL5000 at least, just hold the secure button for a few seconds. I don't have a 7500 O5 to test.

Don't have a secure button enabled in the menu (everything is strapped) so that wouldn't have done me any good. And after delving into the user manuals it looks like the only way to do it is by adding an Erase button to the menu.

This all came about because the mobiles in the fleet are not wanting to accept a queued OTAR load. Procedure for the portables is: wipe keys with the two-button press, load the shadow key/UKEK, then dial up a secure-strapped talkgroup on the system and wait for it to affiliate and communicate with the KMF. Works every time without fail and takes only seconds after affiliation. In the mobiles we tried wiping keys with the KVL4000's erase keys menu function, then loading the UKEK but it just sits there beeping stupidly and not taking the OTAR load even after affiliation. Tried again with Erase through the radio's menu with the same result.

Insert a .40 caliber hollow point at 2300fps into the front portion of the radio drawer. This WILL erase the keys.

Pfft. Do it the military way - zeroize your radio with explosives.
