APX6500 05 FL 05-93

I just got done installing an APX6500 that I converted from a dash mount O5 head to a remote mount O5 head. After getting everything run and connected properly the radio only displays the FL 05-93 and I can't seem to figure out why. The radio was working perfectly before changing it to the remote mount set up. Firmware version is 9.00.00. Any one have any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks.

I asked on the other forum and you haven't answered yet. Get the part numbers off the control head and then CHIB and post them.

I don't have the head in front of me today. I'll grab it tomorrow and let you know.

Does the chib have a sticker inside that says for O2 an O7 use only by chance?

I took a look at the BSM and the part numbers match up except for the revisions A versus C.

With the XTL series the 5-93 error is indicative of a Control Head/CHIB mismatch (early version versus late). I would expect this to hold true of the APX error codes too though they don't have it documented that I can find.

I would definitely open up a case with Motorola. My educated guess is its a mismatch error between the A revision head and C revision CHIB. I would try a firmware upgrade while in the remote setup if you haven't just to see if that cures it. Otherwise hmmmm.....

Sorry it's taken a while to give an update on this. I've been on vacation and haven't had access to the vehicle to work on the issue.

Motorola wasn't much help other than to tell me I had the correct conversion kit and it should be working fine. After testing it out of the vehicle at my desk with a different control head cable and control head power supply it worked just like it was supposed to.

Today I was finally able to try putting it back in the vehicle. It appeared to work just fine until I turned the vehicle off. The control head appeared to power off when the ignition was turned off, but then display "APX 6500" and then "FL 01-90" it cycled this twice and then the control head displayed "Maintenance Mode Remote Device" and stayed powered on. When I relayed this to Motorola, again they weren't much help and said that could be anything. I think I have it narrowed down to the brick not having a constant 12V power feed. I need to get a chance to run a new power feed to that and I'm hoping that solves this problem.

Does it sound like I'm on the right track?

By the brick not having a constant power feed, do you mean the high current 2 pin cable connector on the rear of the radio? If so, yes that needs to have power all the time.
