XTS3000 vehicular charger

Post by mr.syntrx »

Hi

My rescue unit is looking to get some vehiclular chargers for our XTS3000s, to allow us to keep the radios in the truck, rather than having to grab them out of the charger before going out on a call. Government Stores told the us that they're ~$700 AUS (~US$490), via the Motorola government contract. That price is absolutely absurd for a charger, so surely they gave us the price of a convertacom or something?

Are there aftermarket or cheaper (from /\/\) alternatives?

Absurd? Absolutely.

Reality? Unfortunately.

Do your group a favor and check in the used market. /\/\ list is always out of the world.

For something with $15 worth of electronics in it...

Unfortunately, ASTRO gear and accessories are as rare as hen's teeth here, so I'll probably try the police radio techs, and see if they've got anything lying about.

Thanks

Of course they had to design the XTS 1/8 of an inch thicker that the JEDI so that you can't use JEDI vehicular chargers.

Imagine the feeling of having to scrap over 30 JEDI vehicular chargers because they are 1/8" too small and spend about 15,000 USD for new ones.

The RLN4884B is a cheaper alternative. While its not near as rugged, they list for about $100, and come with a vehicle mounting bracket. Itll charge a Jedi/XTS and 2500 batteries.

There also Tri-Chem capable.

if you have a credible relationship with someone in the USA here on the board, i'm sure you could work out a paypal transfer via a 3rd party to pay for the items - then you'd just be out shipping to AU

just an idea.

you'd still come out waaaaay better off than buying them new...

I take it that these are Rescue trucks or Ambulances, do they have shore power (like a auto eject) when they are parked? Our Fire Department had regular ac 6 unit bank charges mounted in the cab, the radios charge as long as the shore line is connected or the PTO generator is running. If this type of set up is a possibility you could just use the charges you have now.
