Where to get a astro spectra flashed?

Post by fire-medic8104 »

I have a astro spectra that I need flashed for apco25. I can setup the systems and it is programmed in the radio, just whenever I receive from the channel that is programmed it resets the radio. So I am assuming that I need to have it flashed. Can a local MSS handle this or only get sent to Motorola? Is anyone on here capable of buying the flash and do a flash upgrade? For a fee of course!!

The radio resets when it receives traffic??????????? Sounds like a hardware problem. Give some details about the radio as far has host/dsp, flashcode etc and what your programming it to receive.

Yeah, but only on the digital channel. If I put the digital channel out of scan, it works fine. I thought it was kinda wierd, but the flashcode only says for conventional operation and Hardware multikey/MDC OTAR and all the other ones I programmed had IMBE in the flash. That why I thought that was the problem. What I am monitoring is Texas DPS new APCO25 channels.

The flashcode is:080001-000000-1
System Package G48
Model# T04KLH9PW7AN

Normally when I programmed them in the past I just set up a generic Astro system and programmed the NAC codes.

When I read the radio it says unknown on DSP and firmware. If I do the home button 5 times all it shows is the model number and serial number and then goes to rf check or something else, can't remember off the top of my head, but it is not like the spectra that will show everything through the menus.

You have yourself a vselp digital radio not an imbe digital radio. If it is one meg vocon you have a chance of upgrading it, if its 512k, I would upgrade to a 1 meg model.

Send it in the motorola, get out the check book though. Expect to pay alot.

You really need to find out if you have a 512k or 1 meg vocon in the radio. You using cps or dos to program it?

I have seen vslep radios reboot on receiving MDC packets, with odd flashcodes, but yours doesn't seem to be too out of wack.

A local MSS who deals with local public safety would be able to do it for you. If they actually will do it, is another story. Some will not want to bother with end users, some will. Expect to pay at least $400 for the software upgrade, plus whatever time/labor charges that the shop charges. The upgrade is all software, and may take between 15-60min to do.

I am using CPS to program it. It sounds like I would be better off getting on ebay find a unit for what I need and get rid of this one. Probably be less headaches and about the same amount of money or a little more.

Not really. You just need to phyically walk into the MSS, see a sales guy and ask for it to be done. I wouldn't call as you would get the usual salesman 400 questions routine or brush off. Go in and find them. Its actually a very simple process to do the work, its just to get them to order it.

In many shops, when its in there, they may (for free or additional cost) bench check/PM the radio.

I have a call into the shop that I worked at several years ago to see if there is someone left that can do it for me. We'll see what happens.
