Interesting information about the HMN4044 W3 head

Post by motorola_otaku »

In a moment of extreme boredom at work this morning, I went flipping through the Astro Spectra Control Head manual, part #6881096C77-O. Check out what it says about the W3 head:

Note the fifth item here (this manual was printed in 2003):

And at the bottom of the functional description is this little gem:

SO.. we should conceivably be able to install JU12 on the W3's main board and use it as a secondary head on any Astro Spectra, regardless of native head type in the codeplug. I wonder how that was accomplished from the factory.. enable dual-head in programming and drive it off the second port on a remote-mount radio? And what cable to the secondary W3 and/or interconnect board was used? I can't think of any reason why I'd personally need one, but it's still cool.

Oh, and they were also kind enough to include sample waveforms in the troubleshooting section, including one for SB9600 data. This should prove useful in further experimentation with the AVA/HHCH setup.
