Whenever Motorola makes a suffix change, "A" to "B" to "C" etc. it is due to a "major" engineering change. This change may be for component & circuit changes (due to a component becoming NLA from the supplier), added features requiring a rewrite to firmware/software, and other reasons. IIRC, the R2200 series had changes to the receiver module, the front panel assembly and the RF I/O module therefore the change from "A" to "B".

Thanks Dave. I was hoping you would chime in. I'm paying $50 each for two "working" units from my employer, only known trouble is one has a bad fan. Last cal on both is 2014. Decent deal?

Sounds decent to me. Keep in mind, the CRTs are NLA so keep the intensity down when not in use.

That's not a bad deal at all. I paid a lot more for one at Hamvention. And they're still going for $300 - $400 on ebay.

Good enough. Will mind the CRT's. The shop has two more units that are inop, one of them has a dead CRT.

OK so they have arrived!

One is an R2210B, the other is an R2410A! Nice surprise there.

Haven't worked with the 2210B much but the 2410A appears to work as far as I've tested it.

BOTH of them need new fans. They are noisy as hell. Any suggestions on where to get replacement fans? These look to be something fancy.

Thanks!

It's a standard fan size ( forget the exact one ) but the originals were god awful dc motor with brushes and no filtering. (OMG ...took a few minutes to figure out where the residual AM and FM was coming from on generate ...on RX as well )

You can ignore the speed sensor output / yellow wire and order something with a decent CFM and acoustic noise level. Not super critical ..just the 12VDC operation

The current fans off the shelf are brushless but I would still add an RC ( very small R ) or LC filter to keep the noise out of the synthesizer from the +12VDC

Thanks for the information. I'll go pick up a couple of them today. Thanks again!

Ended up picking up for $18 a pair of brand new Orion ball bearing 4000RPM fans with the exact same hole pattern.

We'll see how they work out. Trying to figure out if the standoffs will be usable with these, or if they go in the storage bin. I guess it doesn't matter.

I'll report back on how the fans worked out!

OK the first fan has been replaced. I used a Knight Electronics "Orion" model OD6025-12HB. Was able to re-use the existing standoffs and the fan guard. Looks and works great. Got the 2410 all buttoned up. By the way, Dave, what is an R2410? What does the "10" indicate?

Next one to do is the R2200B. I opened it up and found it has an extra card in it that the R2410A doesn't have. A little inspecting and it appears this is an additional signalling options board. Confirmed via the front panel being able to select "Option" on the signalling menu. Anyone have the manual for what these options are? One of them appears to be DTMF based on a "DTMF LVL" pot on the board.

I'll report back on how the R2200B fan replacement goes.

the ten indicates the option board is installed for DPL and DTMF decode etc ... it's in the user manual on reptr builder IIRC

If you have an empty slot in the R2410 than they may moved it to the R2200 ...would have been an R2210 if it had it from the factory

Figured it out... yes they must've moved the option board. I'll leave it as is. Got the manual for repeater builder and decoded some DTMF today!

Fans are all installed and working great. Thanks all!
