Astro 25 R14.00.03 Released

Post by escomm »

Important Notes:
Abstract: 4Meg memory radios will stay at R09.xx.xx
System Platforms Affected: System independent
Special Configurations: N/A
Description: As of this release, when radios are FLASHed, they will be upgraded to
version R14.00.03 Host, R14.00.00 DSP, and R05.07.10 UCM (if applicable). This is
true EXCEPT for all ASTRO Spectra Plus with old version 4Meg Vocon board, and
XTS2500, XTS1500, MT1500 and PR1500 radios with model numbers ending in ‘AN’. All
of these are 4MB memory radios which can not accommodate the size of R10 and beyond
Host firmware releases. These radios will get a Host version of R09.00.23.
ASTRO Spectra Plus with new Vocon board will be upgraded to R09.20.23 Host,
R14.00.00 DSP and R05.07.10 UCM. This will occur automatically; personnel FLASHing
radios will not need to be aware of which ones are 4MB radios. As time goes on, the
4MB release will continue to be upgraded with applicable defect repairs, but no new
features will be added.
New Features:
Abstract: XTS/XTL reception of System-Wide Call now supported
System Platforms Affected: Motorola P25 systems do not support this feature. This
feature is only available on competitive systems.
Special Configurations: None
Description: Reception of System-Wide Calls has been implemented for APCO 25
Trunking. The call is initiated by the console operator. The subscriber is not
capable of transmitting a System-Wide Call.
Abstract: XTL Hot Auxiliary Microphone introduced
System Platforms Affected: 3600 and 9600 Trunking or ASTRO/MDC Conventional.
Special Configurations: Hot Microphone function in use and an auxiliary microphone
is attached to the mobile radio.
Description: The firmware/CPS will allow the radio programmer to choose either the
internal mic or the external auxiliary mic to be the hot mic in Emergency.
Different audio paths can be chosen depending on whether the hot mic is initiated
via the orange emergency button or the external emergency footswitch.
Abstract: International control head support on XTL2500
System Platforms Affected: Any
Special Configurations: XTL2500 remote mount
Description: XTL2500 now provides international control head support.
Performance Improvements:
Abstract: Account for battery self-discharge in battery status display.
System Platforms Affected: Any
Special Configurations: Battery status display enabled on menu
User Symptom: The second line of the battery status display on portables shows the
remaining battery charge. The number shown does not take into account a phenomenon
known as battery self-discharge and so it may be slightly high in cases where the
battery has not been charged for days or weeks.
Description: The calculation and display of remaining battery charge has been
improved to take into account battery self-discharge.
Issue Updates:
Abstract: Garbled In-Car Monitor audio from a secure portable through a DVRS, when
the system is busy
System Platforms Affected: SmartZone P25 Trunking
Special Configurations: DVRS and encryption in use
User Symptom: On a busy system, a busied secure call through a DVRS may result in
garbled audio on the MSU In-Car Monitor speaker once the system resources become
available.
Description: The Mobile Subscriber Unit firmware was fixed to properly decrypt
busied calls through the DVRS.
Abstract: PSU calls through a DVRS during hangtime on a Conventional infrastructure
are unreliable.
System Platforms Affected: Conventional P25
Special Configurations: DVRS in use
User Symptom: During repeater hangtime, keying a Portable Subscriber Unit through a
DVRS often fails until after the hangtime expires.
Description: The Mobile Subscriber Unit firmware was fixed to handle PTT requests
from DVRS-controlled units during repeater hangtime.
Abstract: XTS/XTL goes Out of Range on power-up in excellent coverage or doesn't
receive Audio/Data on a Conventional System.
System Platforms Affected: Any
Special Configurations: None
User Symptom: Radio powers up and goes out of range on a Trunking system or doesn't
receive audio on a Conventional system.
Description: The resolution for this issue has been further improved. Software was
modified to insure that the Abacus IC on the RF board is always being tuned
correctly at radio power-up.
Abstract: XTS/XTL long unmute time in Conventional scan.
System Platforms Affected: Conventional
Special Configurations: Conventional scan feature in use
User Symptom: Radio may experience long unmute delays while in Conventional scan.
Description: This issue has been fixed. The radio was incorrectly using the Non-XL
Scan Unsquelch Duration or XL Scan Unsquelch Duration when qualifying audio.
Abstract: XTS/XTL may not roam properly and cannot affiliate to a site.
System Platforms Affected: 3600 or 9600 SmartZone Trunking.
Special Configurations: The active control channel frequency is reused in a nearby
system and may be received if the local system control channel rolls.
User Symptom: The radio may not roam properly and cannot affiliate to a site after
a control channel rollover.
Description: This issue has been fixed. Firmware will now properly resume
receiving OSWs after a system ID mismatch occurs.
Abstract: Scanned audio in TG scan sounds different from non-scanned audio.
System Platforms Affected: 3600 Analog Trunking
Special Configurations: TalkGroup Scan and HearClear features in use.
User Symptom: Scanned audio may sound different from non-scanned audio due to
HearClear being incorrectly configured in Scan.
Description: This issue has been fixed. Radios will now get the proper HearClear
setup data from the codeplug whether in or out of scan.
Abstract: XTS/XTL forces Conventional channel into Direct Mode in TalkGroup Scan.
System Platforms Affected: 3600 Analog Trunking
Special Configurations: TalkGroup Scan feature in use with talkback enabled.
User Symptom: When using TalkGroup Scan with talkback enabled, with a conventional
channel included in the scan list; when the radio receives a signal on the
conventional channel, that channel ends up in a direct or "talkaround" mode - even
if direct mode is not enabled.
Description: This firmware issue has been fixed. Radios will now have the proper
Direct Mode setup data whether in or out of scan.
Abstract: XTL Siren VIPs not working after a power cycle. Siren mode needs to be
re-enabled.
System Platforms Affected: Any
Special Configurations: Siren VIPs and “Soft Power Off” Ignition setting in use.
User Symptom: XTL Siren mode needs to be re-enabled through a button press after a
power cycle.
Description: This configuration issue has been fixed. On power-up, the last Siren
mode will be saved and VIPs will work without having to re-enable the Siren.
Abstract: XTS/XTL Dropped Announcement Group Audio on Smart-X System
System Platforms Affected: Smart-X system configuration consisting of Astro 25 and
Type II systems.
Special Configurations: Astro 25 and Type II systems have at least one TalkGroup
with the same TalkGroup ID.
User Symptom: If an XTS/XTL is powered up with a 7.x site selected and then
switches to a Smart-X connected site, the radio will not unmute to MultiGroup
calls. If the radio is powered up selected to the Smart-X connected site,
MultiGroup calls will not fail.
Description: This firmware issue has been fixed. MultiGroup calls will now work
regardless of where the radio was powered up.
Abstract: XTS2500 B model ABC switch appears to switch positions by itself.
System Platforms Affected: Any
Special Configurations: ABC switch in use.
User Symptom: ABC switch position is in the “A” position, but the radio behaves as
if the switch is on “B”. If the ABC switch is used as a Zone switch, the radio may
change Zones on its own.
Description: This hardware/firmware issue has been fixed. The fix modifies the
threshold value for detecting position A and provides additional design margin.
Abstract: XTL w/DVRS on Type II system may key up on wrong frequency
System Platforms Affected: 3600 Trunking, 800 MHz
Special Configurations: DVRS in use.
User Symptom: If the XTL is out of range of the Trunking system (local mode) and
the PSU initiates a call, the MSU may key up on the wrong frequency.
Description: This firmware issue has been fixed. The mobile connected to a DVRS
will now always initiate an inbound call on the correct frequency.
Known Problems:
Abstract: Out of Range tone still plays when tones are muted
System Platforms Affected: All Trunking
Special Configurations: N/A
User Symptom: When the Menu button for “Mute” is used and the “All Tones” option is
selected in the CPS Radio Wide screen, Alert Tones tab, the Out of Range tone will
still sound.
Description: This issue will be addressed in a future release.
CPS Release Notes
ASTRO SPECTRA Plus/XTS5000, 4000, 2500, 1500/MT1500/PR1500/XTL5000,

New Version: R14.01.00
Old Version: R14.00.00
Important Notes:
Abstract: Tutorials Updated
Description: When support for Vista was added, the tutorials and HELP engine were
updated to a new format. Modifications to the new HELP format require Microsoft
Internet Explorer version 6 or above. Microsoft began shipping Internet Explorer
version 6 in 2001. Thirteen of the online HELP tutorial files have been converted
from an AVI format (.avi) to the Adobe Flash (.swf) format. The .avi to .swf
conversion saves over 250 megabytes of disk space. All tutorial lessons are now in
the Flash format. These tutorial lessons require Flash Player version 6 or above to
be installed. Flash version 6 was first shipped in 2002. Currently there are
approximately 60 tutorial lessons requiring about 70 MB of disk space. The
tutorials are always installed in a “\Tutorials” subfolder for each of the CPS
applications. It is strongly recommended to install the tutorials with this new
version of the CPS. Previous tutorial versions are not recognized by R12.00.00 and
later CPS. If both portable and mobile CPS is used, it is recommended to update
both at the same time, and tutorials should be installed with BOTH versions. Due
to the size reduction, tutorials are now available for download from Motorola
Online. This file is separate from the CPS download.
Abstract: Tutorial Installation
Description: If both portable and mobile CPS's are used, it is recommended to
update both at the same time, and tutorials should be installed with BOTH versions.
Abstract: POP25 compatibility
Description: The POP25 feature is NOT supported under the VISTA operating system.
New Features:
Abstract: All new radio features supported
System Platforms Affected: Any
Special Configurations: N/A
Description: All new radio features added in this release are supported.
Issue Updates:
Abstract: Unable to format a blank iButton using R14.00.00
System Platforms Affected: Any
Special Configurations: R14.00.00 CPS in use
User Symptom: CPS user is unable to format iButtons with CPS14.00.00. Master Key
can be read and System ID is visible in the Advanced Keys Administrator window;
user removes master and puts in blank iButton and attempts to format, an error is
displayed saying there is no valid iButton.
Description: This CPS issue has been fixed. iButtons can now be formatted from
the File menu.
Abstract: POP25 Clone/Clone Express unsuccessful
System Platforms Affected: Any
Special Configurations: N/A
User Symptom: POP25 Read/Write works fine, but Clone and Clone Express return
invalid ID errors unless the DTMF individual ID has been filled out to 8
characters.
Description: This CPS issue has been fixed.
Known Problems:
Abstract: Window style issue
Description: Drop down items in table fields cannot be accessed when using the
Windows XP Professional "Windows XP Style" display.
Work around: If this issue is encountered, change the display setting to "Windows
Classic Style" for proper functionality.
Abstract: Communication from multiple sources
Description: Attempting to Read from or Write to a radio with the CPS while the
Tuner, Data Link Manager, or synchronization software for a PDA is open and
communicating with a radio will cause a communication failure.
Work around: None
Abstract: Problem with French version of Windows
Description: Due to French import law, the Microsoft encryption support used to
create archive (.cpg) files with the CPS (Customer Programming Software) is not
available on the French version of the Windows Operating Systems. Therefore, there
is no way to save archive files when the CPS is installed on the French version of
Windows. Until import laws are changed such that Microsoft can provide encryption
support, this issue cannot be addressed.
Work around: None
Abstract: Problem with closing dialog box
Description: Under Tools->FLASHport->Read Radio Configuration, if you attempt to
close the dialog box by pressing the 'X' in the upper right of the dialog while the
application is still busy (the cursor is shaped like an hourglass), the application
may terminate.
Work around: None
Abstract: Memory issue
Description: Memory issues have been reported when 3 or more sessions of the CPS
are open at the same time.
Abstract: Please install first
Description: Please install the CPS before attempting to connect a radio to the PC
using the USB cable.
Abstract: Incompatibility with Logitech Mouseware, version 9.76
Description: If Logitech MouseWare version 9.76 is installed on the PC, it causes
Tools>Reports to fail and enter corrupt data in the registry. This occurs when an
ampersand is entered as part of a Zone/Channel name.
Work around: If the MouseWare is either removed or upgraded to MouseWare version
9.79.1 or later, the problem is resolved.
Abstract: Communication errors during CPS read/write.
Description: On rare occasions, communication errors might be encountered during
radio read/write. If this happens, reset the radio and try again.
Abstract: PDA application doesn’t support HPD
Description: Reading/programming of the HPD1000 data radio is not supported by the
PDA application.
Abstract: Advanced System Key fails to load.
Description: If an Advanced System Key fails to load, close the currently open
codeplug and reopen it. The System Key should be active, even though an error
message may appear.
Work around: None
Abstract: 'Initialize' message on ASK
Description: When formatting an Advanced System Key, the 'Initialize' message may
appear several times. Please select 'Cancel' to proceed.
Work around: None
Abstract: POP25 operations which cannot be cancelled
Description: Once a read or write codeplug operation via POP25 is started, the
process can't be cancelled. Depending on the size of codeplug, this process could
take 3 to 8 minutes to complete.
Work around: None
Abstract: Invalid Codeplug Caution
Description: Please avoid saving an invalid codeplug with "~" characters in table
fields. Doing so may cause the application to terminate.
Abstract: Communications error during cloning of HPD1000
Description: If a communications error is encountered when attempting to Clone HPD
1000 radios (mostly while running in Windows 2000), then in the CPS under View ->
Options -> Timer Options tab, change the value of 'Clone/Read/Write Timer(sec)'
field to '5' or higher.
Abstract: Communications error during FLASHport
Description: If a communications error is encountered when attempting to FLASHport
update radios, in the CPS, under View -> Options -> Timer Options tab, change the
values of 'FLASHport Timer' fields to '20' or higher
Work around: None
Abstract: FailSoft Connect Tone not ASK protected
Description: ‘FailSoft Connect Tone' field can only be Advanced System Key
protected if 'Connect Tone' is also protected. Specific protection for this field
is not supported.
Work around: None.
Abstract: Voice Files and POP25
Description: Voice Files do NOT get copied when using POP25 feature, as their size
would make the codeplug load take too long.
Work around: Add Voice Files when directly connected to radio.
Abstract: Preset Zone and Channel Enable and DTMF mic.
Description: "Preset Zone and Channel Enable" should NOT be enabled when using a
DTMF mic.
Work around: None
Abstract: Help files may not open
Description: Help files may not open after importing a .csv file using the Import

It's nice of them to put the firmware on MOL now. Even I can DL it. :)

I thought maybe you wouldn't need an ibutton anymore to upgrade but I tried and you still do.

You need to have an account to get on MOL,it isn't free.
Kilgore: Smell that? You smell that?
Lance: What?
Kilgore: Napalm, son. Nothing in the world smells like that.
Kilgore: I love the smell of napalm in the morning. You know, one time we had a hill bombed, for 12 hours. When it was all over, I walked up. We didn't find one of 'em, not one stinkin' dink body. The smell, you know that gasoline smell, the whole hill. Smelled like... victory. Someday this war's gonna end...
