Programming Process Changes
Due to changes in communication between the APX CPS and the APX radio unit,
programming times (reading, writing, cloning, FLASH upgrading and FLASH
refreshing)
have been improved. These improvements can only be realized by upgrading the
radio's
firmware to the latest version (R07.00.00).
IMPORTANT PROGRAMMING NOTE: Even though the radio may be disconnected from the PC
when the CPS programming is done, DO NOT TURN THE RADIO OFF if the updating
process on the radio is still in progress. If an update is in progress, the radio
will present the words: "Updating..." on the front and/or top display. This update
can take up to 90 seconds after the CPS programming session has completed.

I can say one positive thing about CPS R07 so far. I installed it last night. My codeplug with 1800+ channels now opens in less than a minute. In previous versions it would take over ONE HOUR just to load. Never mind the lag while making changes to the codeplug itself.

SWEET!

Cheers,
SD.

Did they make any changes to the display font to set it back the way it was?

Firmware R07 isn't out yet, just the CPS. I wish they would - the new font SUCKS compared to the R06.00 version!

Anyone else having problems getting version 7 to read or write to a radio. Version 06.01.00 works fine on the same computer which is an HP laptop running Windows 7 64 bit. When installing the software I get the error [Could not start Device Communications Service]. The software does install but will not read/write a radio, but does read/save a codeplug from the archive. I tried the ideas in the readme with the firewall, etc, but still no luck.

Thanks

I'm seeing the same error on a ML910 laptop with Win XP Pro SP3. My old CPS 6.00.01 works just fine. APX 7.00.00 refuses to read/write or read radio configuration. I'm getting the same error: Could not start Device Communications Service when attempting to read or write the radio. Maybe Moto will come up with something.

Got it fixed. I basically uninstalled CPS 7, shut down the PC. Powered back up and installed the CPS again and at the very end it showed a DOS window that said Motorola Communications Service Installer. Also there should be a folder under c:\program files\motorola it should be called device communication. If you don't have a Device Communication folder visable, you probably need to uninstall the CPS and re-install it.

Still the same issue here after uninstalling and reinstalling a few times. The folder for the device communications service is there but still says it is not running and will not read/write a radio. I'm also getting a wrong version of flashplayer warning even though the newest version is installed.

R7 host/dsp was posted on MOL last night. I'm loving the ability to have 10 preset keys for various talkgroups. Really handy. Haven't used it enough to observe much else yet. Once you upgrade to R7 read and write times to the radio are ridiculously fast from the CPS.

Cheers,
SD.

Does the firmware update require Secure keys to be reloaded? Sometimes it does and somethimes it doesn't.

I just updated the firmware on mine and I didn't have to reload keys. So it must not have updated the MACE firmware.

Also holy crap it is a lot faster now with version 7 firmware. The radio behaves differently after you write a codeplug to it, but as far as reading and writing the radio the difference is night and day from previous releases.

Yep...I agree. It flies!
