Text Messaging

Post by tdats »

Does anyone know how to get a 7550's text entry mode to change? Mine are stuck in some mode where it is trying to predict what I am typing, and won't let me just type things in, like names. I did find in the radio menu to turn off predictive text, but it does not seem to make a difference. Strangely enough, if I go into the user defined words area in the menu, it is not using the predictive text and the little icon on the top right of the screen changes to abc.

If it makes a difference, I am on a connect plus system.

I am not finding anything in the CPS or CP CPS to change it either. Tried it on both a 7550 and a SL7550, both of them are running the newest firmwares I believe.

Thanks!

To change input method, perform the following:
1. In the messages menu select Compose. Note that you can see Xt9 in the upper right corner.
2. Press and hold the # key (Long Press). This will access an extended options menu.
3. There are four options to choose from;
 Switch between Letters and Numbers
 Access the Symbols list (#, %, @, <, >,=)
 Switch between Multi-tap and Predictive (XT9)
 Change input Language
4. Press the back button. This will take you back to the Compose screen. Note: If you select Multi-tap that you will now see Abc in the upper right corner. This indicates that the radio is in Multi-tap mode. If you select Numbers you will see 123 in the upper right corner, Numbers is active for the current entry only.

Just wondering, where did you find the info on how to change the text modes? Is there some undocumented features document out there somewhere, or do I just suck at searching these forums?

@tdats

The information I posted I cut from a PDF document we give to our customers so they can do in service training with the staff caring various radios connected to our services. Most of it I have pulled from various manuals, some I just sat down with the radio and identified and some came from talking with various people at M in the Application Developer Program..

Since we support all of the MOTOTRBO family I had the question asked constantly before I built our own PDF.
