Astro Spectra + (Plus) programming cable diagram?

Post by mancow »

Seems long ago I knew a way to make a simple programming cable for the Astro Spectra + series but I've since mentally dumped that info. Does anyone have a diagram? Thanks.

What radios do you own?: an unhealthy amount of them

This is ripped directly from my archive of another site. I have built a few this way and they work just fine. You can't use them for flash upgrading but standard read/write/tune should work fine.
High Power W4/5/7/9
No mods needed
Cable Pinout
DB9 (Computer) to DB25 Accessory Port on Radio
2 - RXD - 2
3 - TXD - 3
5 - GND - 18
7 - RTS - 4
8 - CTS - 17
All Jumpers are already in place on the interconnect - Unknown if same for W3
***THIS WILL NOT WORK ON MID POWER REMOTE MOUNT***

Mid Power Units
DB9 (Computer) to Radio Rear 15 Pin Connector
2 - RXD - 11
3 - TXD - 13
5 - GND - 8
7 - RTS - 15
8 - CTS - 1
If dashmounted don't forget to add your emerg. jumper (pin 2 to pin 17) and your IGN wire (4) and if you want your speaker added in then Spkr Hi(6) and Spkr Lo(7)

Aghhh these are remote mount. I just saw where they won't work with this diagram. I was hoping to be able to slap a regular W5 or W7 head on them and go. It's always something...

If they're mid power the rear DB15 should still work. I've done it that way several times with remote mounts.

I've never played with high power plusses before so I can't help you there.

They are mid power remote mounts (two DB25s on the front). I removed the front plate and slapped a W7 face plate on them. They power up fine once ignition is applied and the power button on the W7 does not work. All other control seem fine. I get no response at all when I try to read them. I'll try another computer to be sure.

There are jumpers on the command board that might need to be set in order for RS232 to the rear port to work properly. IIRC the correct jumper settings are listed in the DSM for the plus. I'm at work right now but I'll see if I can pull it up during lunch and get you that info.

I have been looking for it myself but haven't yet found them. I appreciate the help.

Found it. This is for disabling RS232 operation, so reversing the positions in this chart (should) make things work.

Ah, was looking at the wrong revision. This is a J command board. Helps when you look at the right thing and now I see the parts are missing.

Rat bastards. Why remove them? Why would they do that? It wasn't used for anything special.
