APX Firmware

Post by webby52 »

I have a fleet of APX 6500 mobiles that are still running R08.05.05 firmware. I have to update the codeplug with some new changes and was wondering what is the preferred way to upgrade the mobiles. Can I do it all in one bump right to R15.12? Or should I do it in gradual steps? If so two steps or a few?The only issue this would raise is labor as it takes 10-15 minutes per update.

Should be OK.... grab a spare unit and test it.

AFAIK the only issue was with bringing the radio to R08.00.00 BEFORE going any higher. I've gone from 9 to as high as 13 with no issues. It's not like the Astro25 radios where you had to do it incrementally or risk bricking the radio.

edit: Also keep in mind that you will lose your encryption keys (if any are loaded) and you will probably lose trunking authentication keys with that big of a jump (again, if any are loaded.) Past R14 that is no longer an issue.
