Mobile Charger for GP300/P110

I have a GP300/P110 installed in a racecar and up until now it has used a battery eliminator for power. Since the car needs to have a cutoff switch that kills all power from the battery, this can lead to a situation where the driver needs to kill the power but would be in their advantage to be able to still talk to the pit crew. I would like to put batteries back on the GP300/P110 and then use a modified charger to keep power flowing to the unit so we don't have to worry about the battery running down. What I am unsure about is whether it would actually work that way. I would use a regular desk charger with car voltage feeding it rather than the wall brick power.

If this won't work, does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks!

Ben

Yes, you can use a standard desktop charger and feed it with 12-volts through the rear power jack. We did this for years with the rapid chargers. They even made a vehicle bracket for the charger back then.

I have a box of about 12 brand new Motorola GP300/GP350/M1225 desktop charger-to-vehicle brackets. They are metal brackets that let you mount your standard plastic desktop charger cup in a vehicle securely via screws/bolts. We were going to mount some M1225 portables in a fire truck and changed to Jedi portables before the project happened, so they are leftovers. Motorola was proud of these...about $50 NSO...for not a lot of 'stuff'. If you're interested in one, let me know. I'd like to get rid of them...and not anywhere near the $50 we spent for them. Thanks. -Jeff
