XTS5000 Convertacom help...

Post by DavidQT69 »

Hello all... I recently acquired a nicely used XTS5000 Covertacom, model #NTN8560F with a microphone HMN4069B. The only thing it DIDN'T come with is installation instructions! I have 4 wires to connect for power. There's a red, white, black, & green wire. The Red & White wires have a built-in 7.5 fuse into the wire. Does ANYBODY know where I connect which wires to where? I would really appreciate it as this is my first ever Convertacom experience! Thanks in advance!

For the XTS5000 they are not called Covertacoms, they are called an "XTVA" which stands
for XTS VA and the VA = Vehicle Adapter. I have a fleet of them in the field and all of them
have a 4 wire power plug with a Red=A+ Constant, Black=Ground, Yellow=Ignition A+ and
the 4th is not used and not even populated in the plug. The Yellow and Red wires are both
fused with a 5A fuse.

Well I bought this one used off eBay, and this one has 4 wires, I know all of the manuals I've read have Red, Yellow, & Black wires... This guy shipped it to me with a 4-prong plug and the wires are Red, Black, Green, & White... The Red & White wires have a 7.5 fuse built-into the wires itself... I'm thinking he switched the wires on me or something but I have no clue where to hook these wires up for this XTVA now...

I found this info a long time ago on the internet and not sure where
since it was long ago - see below.

4-pin connector J2 (see diagram)
[Referred to as Supply Connector]
| 4 | 3 |
|\2/| 1 |
1 A+ (Red)
2 Ground (Black)
3 Ignition (Yellow)
4 LED Dimmer

* Connecting pin 4 to headlight switch dims LEDs

If i get the chance to double check this at work tomorrow
I will post back and confirm on the pinout pin numbers.

Interesting... Some people are telling me the Green 4th wire is for a "Dimmer" or something. Basically the guy that sold me this off eBay mis-represented this XTVA cuz even the pictures had a yellow wire, but he must have Frankenstein'ed the wires...
