I have a medium power VHF Spectra with an HHCH. Everything works properly. In moving to a new vehicle, I decided to move the control unit to the trunk. I purchased a new 17' HHCH Y cable. Now here is where things get strange. If the HHCH is connected directly to the radio and the DB-15 connector with the ignition wire in it is connected directly to the radio, everything is fine. If I connect the HHCH to the radio through the Y cable but continue to connect the DB-15 directly to the radio, everything is fine. However, if I connect the HHCH to the radio through the Y cable and also connect the DB-15 to the Y cable, certain things no longer work on the radio. The radio will turn off and on, select channels, and transmit and receive properly. However, you can no longer engage scan, H/L, or encryption. Does anyone have any insight into this? The obvious guess is that the DB-15 requires some different wires or pinouts for use with the Y cable, but I am unable to find any confirmation of that on either batlabs or onfreq. I am mystified. Any help will be appreciated.
