QuickMount info. READ!!!

Post by jim »

I went to program a CDM1250 in an ambulance yesterday and didn't realize that there was a QuickMount dual-head kit installed.

As soon as I programmed it, the dreaded "Beeeeeeeeeeep" came out with an RSS error. The radio would now just power up and display "EEPROM CS ERROR" and do nothing.

After retrying the program over and over, it didn't work.

I just happened to have one of these QM kits sitting here awaiting to be installed in a firetruck and sure enough, it says not to program through the QuickMount systeml, but connect a head direct.

I plugged the front control head's cable directly into the radio, bypassing the QuickMount system, and successfully dumped a codeplug into the radio. WHEW!!!

So here's Jim's tip for the day: IF YOU ARE PROGRAMMING A CDM RADIO IN ANY VEHICLE WHERE THERE MAY BE A DUAL-HEAD SYSTEM PRESENT, CHECK FIRST!!!!! If there is, run one control head direct to the radio to avoid crashing the EEPROM.

...just thought y'all might wanna know.

Does anyone know if this same issue applys to a GM300 or Maxtrac with a Quickmount install? We have several here in the county on volunteer fire dept. equipment, and I would like to know before I scare myself half to death trying to program one! :o

You can program a GM300/Maxtrac/Radius through a quickmount or quickmount dual head kit. It works fine on that model.

Heres what I was told directly by the manufacturer (Quickmount)
The GM300/Maxtrac kits can be programmed at either head at any time.
THe CDM series dual head kit will not allow programming and will give an error, possibly damaging both the radio and the dual head adapter. You MUST run one head directly to the radio to program this setup.
