Greetings Everyone,
Is there such an animal. I thought the swimmers were only Saber I's. Thanks for any feedback.

Re: Submersible Saber II?
Yup you are correct. There is a 2R though obviously.
That "Waterproof" Saber II on Ebay.........Thats what happens
when you take a nice Securenet-S radio, add a Controller to it, and
then proceed to put it in the WRONG case. Thats how that happened.
I made one of those Monsters too a while ago, and lately It's
been bugging me more and more. I need to take out the controller
and II case and use a different radio. What a waste of a Perfectly
good Securenet Submersible Model.......Cause it sure as hell ain't
waterproof in a II case.....
BTW the case on a REAL Securenet-S model can be quickly tested
buy forming your mouth into an oval, while simultaneously holding
the bottom screw holes with your finger. You will be able to instantly tell if the thin waterproof membrane in the case is still good or it has been punctured. It's a lot like a virgin........
The Swimmers really are nice radios. I dropped mine in the mop
bucket a few times, as well as put it in the fish tank with the fish.
It's not big and ugly like an R, but it's still rugged and waterproof.
Real ones seem to be rather rare.....Usually the word SABER is
written in Yellow on a real S model. But Ive noticed that most of
them have had their hymen punctured, and they are no longer
waterproof. I only got one good one out of four on Ebay.....

Yep, the II R's can be a :o to seal if you have anything less than a new case.
I never understood the top label -S situation.
I have a I R with the -S on the top. I also have a II R with just securenet on the top, no -S after it. It still is submersible though. I compared the top controls off an -S model with a regular saber non submersible. I didn't see anything different at all. They all have O rings above the control pots between the frame and O rings and around the ERGO switch. However, I did find that the II R had a small O ring around the volume pot shaft underneath the knob its self. I guess that may have been there to keep water from getting past the shaft. The mode switch didn't have one though. Maybe that's a factory thing mine was missing?
Also, I've never found a service manual specific to the R series that details any difference in the controls or talks about the R case.
I was lucky enough to get the II R on ebay for a good price. The case looked new but there was a small puncture in the speaker seal. I managed to pry the front cover off and put a thin layer of double faced plastic tape on it to patch it. I glued the front on and gave it a try. I took it on a canoe trip in Arkansas last year. I was in raging water waist deep with the radio on my belt. It was under water for atleast two hours and never failed. I learned that you NEVER use the three front buttons while under water. It's just sandwiched in the case and will allow water in if disturbed. The external water pressure seems to force the cup shaped button assembly against the inner case causing it to become tighter with the increased pressure.
I found that if you are real carful and lucky you can use the clear vinyl emt gloves for membranes. I took the old one off and used it as a template. It seemed to work fine but I need to test that radio again I guess before using it.
Maybe I'm wrong but it seems the R battery acts like a plunger and forces air into the case when you install it to provide positive pressure.
The IIR vhf is my personal favorite of all the Motorola crap I have laying around. I just wish they would service the cases at a decent price. Plus, finding batteries under $150 new is damn near impossible.
Astro Saber IIR, that's the best of both worlds. I just wish I had the money to try the super smooth XTS R series. After working on other jedi series radios, how they sealed that thing up I don't understand at all

I thought so
Thanks Guys, I was wary when I saw that unit for auction. It is usually a red flag when the seller goes to great lengths to state he can't test doesn't know but looks great and NO returns. Thanks again.
