I think the D and later versions work with the Astro Spectra, the A/B/C work with the older Spectras.....

Ooops.

I don't have the books here in front of me - but seems that the 1185 series uses the bus from the radio to do it's functions (both audio and command). The 1439 gets it command signals from a remote head specifically for it (not the remote head for the radio).

In the dual-radio Feds hook-up, there is a remote head for the siren. But it goes to the SIU, so it looks to the siren like the command data is coming from the control head and not the siren remote.

I would suspect that there is some wiring/cable differences at least, and some board/firmware differences to bring in the command signals from the remote head.

I have only seen one 1439, and it's been a while.

Hope that helps, and maybe one of the gurus can jump in here - some of my stuff is speculation.

i wonder

Post by batdude »

if the big difference is using the W3 HHCH for siren functions -

VERSUS USING EXTERNAL SWITCHING

i am going to try a standard 1185d on the HHCH - i bet it works

methinks that using a DEK/switchbox is what requires the 1439

Doug,

The 1439 can operate in 3 different configurations...

1. Hooked directly to a radio (W4,5,7,&9) and uses the radio control head for controlling the siren programed through software.

2. Hooked diretly to a radio (W3) and with a second cable HKN6145A directly to a special?? DEK HLN1241A which controls the siren. The second special cable is wired directly to the connector on the siren.

3. Hooked directly to a radio (W3) and a with second cable HKN6146A directly to a special switch box HLN6819A which controls the siren. The second special cable is wired directly to the connector on the siren.

In configuration 2 and 3 the siren interprets the switch for the radio and controls the siren.

If you look under the Model Specific Information under ASTRO Spectra on the Board you will find a link to a wiring diagram for the 1439 siren cable.

I hope this helps.....

that's the one that i would prefer to configure with my W3.

i can assign buttons / menu items in the software to control the siren - which would negate the need for the 1241 switch and special cable (i do have both however)

since i only need airhorn and external radio features... i am hoping i can get a 1185 box to do the trick

My wife's car has a W3 with an 1185C unit attached, she works at a local hospital. The air-horn is on the car’s horn circuit and the yelps are via the orange HHC button.

I’m not allowed to play with them when she’s driving…
